A friend of mine is having a hard time with her husband. He became an alcoholic. Yesterday, he assaulted her and the police came in and arrested him. She'll be filling for a divorce. She has been married with him for two years. She told that she have a green card that's going to expire in October. If she divorces him now, what would happen to her immigrant status ? thx for the help.

She needs to make certain the divorce is final before the green card expires so she can remove conditions on her own without complication. She can utilize the Violence Against Women Act, if need be but it would be far simpler to simply divorce and remove conditions. See the Removal of Conditions Guide.
