AOS Interview Questions

Hello, my wife and I completed biometrics on 4/14/2010 in New York City. I have many questions about what to expect next. I read that there is a chance that any case might be sent to central processing and, if so, there will not be an interview. (1) Is there any way to check to see if our case has been sent to central processing? (2)If there is to be an interview, how much advanced notice of the interview date are we likely to receive? This is important, because my wife may be in Thailand on Advance Parole when I receive notice of our interview, and I will have to then book a ticket and fly her back to New York. (3) Will the interview be in New York City or in Albany? (4) Is it possible to postpone an interview date in July until September? Has anyone out there experienced negative consequences for doing so.

you'll get a notice that it is transferred to csc if it is (which will mean no interview). most people get about a month's notice for their interview - mine was 5 1/2 weeks. it is generally not a good idea to reschedule/postpone an interview - it often causes many problems and really shouldn't be done outside an extreme emergency rather than an inconvenience. it's one of those things you should just make work cause they don't really care about your schedule. good luck!

AOS (from tourist w/overstay)

1/26/10 - NOA

5/04/10 - interview appt - approved

ROC

2/06/12 - NOA date

7/31/12 - card production ordered

N-400

2/08/13 - NOA date

3/05/13 - biometrics appt

6/18/13 - interview - passed!

7/18/13 - oath ceremony

Yes - if your AOS case is transferred to CSC, you will receive a NOA.

(2)If there is to be an interview, how much advanced notice of the interview date are we likely to receive?

Several weeks usually.

This is important, because my wife may be in Thailand on Advance Parole when I receive notice of our interview, and I will have to then book a ticket and fly her back to New York.

Anything is possible but I'm not sure I'd recommend it. What reason for rescheduling it would you give?

Based upon my interpretation of the AOS processing time data, it seems like a lot of people are not interviewed in New York City. The average time between biometrics and interview (if required) is 91 days, but the average time between biometrics and decision is only 63 days. Since the latter number appears to reflect a pooled average including both those who are interviewed and those who are not, it seems that a lot of people are not interviewed and that the average time from biometrics to decision for those not interviewed must be significantly less than 63 days.

If we receive a notice telling us that our case was transferred to Central Processing Center (CSC)it seems to me that such a letter will probably arrive soon. Also, if we do not receive such a letter by the end of May, then it is probably safe to assume that we will have an interview in New York City. Right???
