I took my oath yesterday in Worcester, MA. There were 750 people in attendance to take the oath including 168 people for name change. The wait was long but the ceremony was quick and seamless.

I am so glad the immigration process is over for the most part. Now is time for me to apply for a passport and have the SSN office update my status.

You need to wait I beleive 10 days before going to your local Social Security office. They need to verify your naturalization and it may not be updated in their system just yet.

Actually, you don't need to wait to go to the SSA - you can do it the following day. They won't issue the new card until you are in the system but you can apply before that. Bring your certificate with you as proof and then they will just wait until your file is actually updated before they issue the new SSN card. I think mine took less than 10 days before I had my new card in hand and I went the day after my oath ceremony. While you are waiting for the new SSN card you can send off your certificate to get your US passport. SSA only needs to see the certificate - they don't need to keep it.

Congrats!how did you sign your certificate of naturalization?im nots ure if i will sign it the same as i sign my photograph.I sign my photograph in single word.its only show my middle initial on my signature .

I signed the the certificate using the same sinature on the picture.

@Kathry41: you did get a new card after you become USC? I went there and I got nothing. No new card no confirmation. I was only told that it is updated in their system.
