Hi guys,

So I had my interview for my K1 Fiance visa last tuesday (13th april) and all went well but one thing. I was told my visa has been approved but one doccument is missing, I didn't have proof of my fiancee's father's citizenship (though it was never asked for) I was given the blue 221(g) form and told all I need to do is have a copy of his passport or birth certificate faxed to them with a cover note contaning my case number, he also suggested I leave my passport with the embassy as it will go faster then. The following day, 14th april my fiancee's father faxed the doccuments requested and since I've heard nothing.

Any idea if there is a way to check they recieved the fax and everything is ok? I know it's only been a little over a week but I'm sure you're all aware how frustrating this waiting game is with visas! I've heard some horror stories about people in my sutiation then having to wait 4-5 months for the visa. I was told I was approved and everything will be sorted once I get proof of his citizenship to them.

Is there a number I can call to check up on it? or somewhere to e-mail? Any idea how long this usually takes?

Thanks for your help!

Shane

Usually it will take 2-4 weeks after submission of the requested documents to get the visa back (they have to have time to get the stuff with the file and then "process" and then generate the visa. You can call the DOS line to inquire about whether or not the visa has been issued, but I wouldn't bother until at least 2 weeks has passed.

Thanks guys,

The thing that worried me is that with a fax there is no way of knowing they got it and everything is ok, you know? My fiancee's father said he sent it to the number I was given and it said it sent and everything seemed fine on his end. It's a shame the embassy can't just send an e-mail or something to say they've recieved it and are processing it.

So you guys think I'm being too impatient and there shouldn't be anything to worry about? I was told I was approved and they just needed proof of his citizenship (he did the affidavit of support for me) Though they never asked anywhere for proof of his citizenship which is a shame.

Thanks again,

Shane

That is odd...as far as I know, there is not US citizenship requirement to being a co-sponsor on the I-134. Can you give a little more detail on how the issue of your future FIL's citizenship proof came into the interview discussion? I have never heard of it being requested....I cannot see the reason for it.

The I-134 often follows the the guidelines set for the I-864.

Only a USC/LPR can be a joint sponsor. Proof of their USC/LPR status must be provided.

It's usually helpful to follow the I864 guidelines when attempting to complete a I-134 as consulates often apply the same yardstick.

This is just my limited understanding of the I-134.

Not specifically a citizen. But there does need to be proof that a sponsor / cosponsor is an LPR or citizen. Likely that is what the CO needed to confirm.

I thought it was weird too as I never read anywhere that it was needed. I only read the guidelines for the forms I had to fill out.

So I went to the first window and the lady asked for all my doccuments - passport, police certificate etc and one of the doccuments she asked for was the proof of his LPR or citizenship. Wasn't following any questions or anything just standard procedure. Just a shame as I never read it anywhere or never saw anyone applying for a K1 with an I-134 needing it before. Too bad. It's really frustrating waiting though with no idea what's going on. There shouldn't be any problems I hope? I just wish I could find out what's going on. But it seems I'm being too impatient as it usually takes 2-4 weeks?

Thanks.

Hi Shane,

How did the US consulate notify you when your visa is approved? Did they email you or give you a call? I am also approved for K1 visa, but they need one more document from me and I was given a 221g. I sent my document and passport through DHL express last Wednesday and haven’t heard back since. I don’t know if they received my passport and document or not. I keep check the US consulate login page but there is no status update. Any help would be great.

Thanks!
