Filed: K-1 Visa Country: Philippines
Timeline

Hello. I'm sorry if I'm posting repeats of previous posts, but just wanted to ask a few questions. My bf is in the Philippines. I'm a US citizen. We've been a couple since July 2008. I had previously planned to bring him over with a fiancee visa because I had read that that's the fastest way. Then I heard on Citizen Pinoy that it's really only a few months faster, but with a spouse visa you don't have to file for adjustment of status. (I think that's what it was.) Anyways, so now I'm looking at the spouse visa options, K3 or CR-1. I've read that CR-1 is the way to go, that K3 is obsolete. Is that correct? I know processing times vary, but for those that have filed CR-1s, how long did it take from the time you filed to the time your spouse had his/her interview? Thank you so much for any help!! :)

The time frame is based on an average of 7 to 9 months. The 9 months time frame seems to be what most are experiencing.

ours took about 5 months total for visa issue...I did get some expedites done, but I lost time because of an RFE. Most the November filers are getting their visa interviews now. It all depends how proactive you are during the NVC stage. If you have everything ready to go and sent there right after you pay the bills and are able to print the coverpages...it goes pretty quick...only a couple of weeks if you dont get any RFEs. check out my timeline to see how ours flowed.

I know I have seen fiancee visas get approved in 4 months and some take 8 months. Depends on circumstances.

You are correct in the process not taking as much money for the process to get the greencard or adjusting status, but you still have to make a trip to the philippines to get married. It could take as long as a month to get married in the philippines depending how helpful municiple hall is and if you do a church wedding or not. Also if you wait for the NSO marriage certificate it could take as long as 2 months to get...I would photocopy the one that you guys sign and gets the NSO seal.
