I was told by the padrol patrol guys to go down to Seattle in person and file my AOS. They said it was much faster and I should get my temporary work authorization that day. Has anybody heard of this? Do I have to make an appointment or can I just show up. Do I have to bring my kids with me?? If anybody has done it this way could you please let me know.

You can not file for AOS at your local office and have not been able to do so for a few years....

Effective April 1, 2005, if you live in any of the following states Alaska, California, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Washington,

You will need to mail your application to:

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

P.O. Box 805887

Chicago, IL 60680-4120

Or, for non-United States Postal Service (USPS) deliveries (e.g. private couriers)

Seattle does not do walk-in appointments.

You have to send your AOS/EAD/AP applications to Chicago now.

Aug. 21/08... Interview - PASSED!!!!

Sept. 2/08... Oath Ceremony

Sept. 5/08... Sent in Voter Registration Card

Sept. 9/08... SSA office to change status to "U.S. citizen"

Oct. 8/08... Applied in person for U.S. Passport

Oct. 22/08... U.S. Passport received

Apr. 6/05... DS-230, Part I faxed to Vancouver Consulate

May 26/05... K-2 Interview - APPROVED!!!!

Feb. 22/06... AOS Interview - APPROVED!!!!! (Passport NOT stamped)

Dec. 4/07... I-751 sent to NSC

Filing AOS at your local office is no longer available. You will need to file at the service center, which is the Chicago office. Than they will handle your case until you have an interview at the local office in Seattle. I had my interview in Seattle. If you need help with AOS procedures you can set up an appointment(Infopass) and you can choose anytime and date. You have to have an appointment. A work authorization card takes from 3 to 6 months to receive after filing. You can also bring anyone who is filing with you as well.

I think the only other option is DORA, but that's only available for people living in the Dallas area. Everyone else would have to file through the Chicago lockbox.
