Two years ago you could book one for a CR1/IR1 without an interview letter as well - then something changed - or did it?

I have seen it posted many times here that they require the letter, at least one person was asked. Now i'm questioning whether or not it is just VJ folklore or if it is fact.

Well, would a CR-1 have anything from the consulate with a case number and prof the case has been sent there? Because apparently that's all you need. I don't really know anything about the CR-1 process, so I couldn't really tell you!

Although, I remember when I called to book the medical the woman asked when my interview was, and I told her I didn't have one yet. And then she said, "wait you're a K-1 right?" and I said yes, and then she let me book the appointment. So maybe there is something different about CR-1's that don't allow them to book without the interview letter...
