Hello everyone,

We are applying for our marriage license today. I have a few questions considering applying for SSN and AOS.

- I am planning on taking my fiance's lastname after we get married. Which is best to do, apply for SSN before or after we get married?

- We are planning to use the marriage license to have a religious wedding ceremony. Do we still have to certify the marriage later at the courthouse?

- How long before the I-194 expires should we file the AOS?

-Do I need my translated birth certificate for the AOS?

Hello everyone,

We are applying for our marriage license today. I have a few questions considering applying for SSN and AOS.

- I am planning on taking my fiance's lastname after we get married. Which is best to do, apply for SSN before or after we get married? Apply now.

- We are planning to use the marriage license to have a religious wedding ceremony. Do we still have to certify the marriage later at the courthouse? No. As long as the Imam is certified with your state it should not be a problem.

- How long before the I-194 expires should we file the AOS? Try to file before the 90 days is done. You can still file after but to stay safe file before.

-Do I need my translated birth certificate for the AOS? Yes.

6/2/2010- Case received/resumed at CSC

6/18,6/22,6/23 AOS touches

6/28/2010- EAD production and touch on AP

6/29/2010-AOS APPROVED

7/2/2010- 2nd update on EAD production and touched on AP....

7/6/2010- Received "Welcome Letter" and AP document

7/12/2010-Received GREEN CARD and EAD

For some reason, I lost my translated birth certificate on the day I traveled to the US. I have multiple copies of it though. Would a copy do?

Yes, send copies only. The only originals that are needed for AOS are the AOS forms.
