another I-129F quick question

If the USC checks "Birth in the US" as an answer to Q.10, then does the question of giving the "number of certificate, date and place" apply? Or is this just for the 'naturalization' answer.

If it does apply (I'm looking at the birth certificate from NY state dept. of health now), is it the STATE FILE NO. given in the body of the document? or is it the looong 16-digit number that starts with a V that can be found in the bottom right hand corner of the front page of the document. There is also a number under the bar code at the back, but I am assuming that this is not it.

Thanks

Mo

I can't answer the question of which number to put there, but it seems to me that you have to provide the number, date and place of issuance of your birth certificate, from the way it's worded.

"10. My citizenship was acquired through (check one)

Birth in the U.S. | Naturalization

Give number of certificate, date and place it was issued."

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

From what my lawyer told me if you were born in the USA you just check that box. If you are naturalized then you check that box and put the numbers in the box below.

Beautiful! Thank you very much. I though I had read this on a previous post, but could not remember where to find it to double check.

Thanks for the advice again!

I have a birth certificate issued in the city of New York. There's a certificate no. (11 digits) next to my date of birth which is the number to be used. There is also a document number on the bottom-right which is NOT the number in question... it begins with an L, followed by 6 numbers.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

yes, don't write any number there

If you were born in the US, you MUST provide your birth certificate number in that space.

Don't forget to attach a copy of both the front -and- the back of your original birth certificate.

As far as I know, you CAN add a number and they will assume it's your birth certificate number, but as a birth certificate is not even required for the petition, you don't need the number. :)

Amazing what they'll issue an RFE for, and what slips by.... glad this didn't hold you up, but I wouldn't take any chances.

If you're using your birth certificate as proof of US citizenship, then you must provide a front/back copy of the original certificate.

Jen: you don't need a birth certificate for the petition. You can also send in other forms of proof of citizenship, such as your entire photocopied passport.
