He no longer needs the EAD card now that he has his green card.

That's what I thought. But, do I go to the social security department and tell them to get him a new card that no longer says "Valid only with dhs authorization"... right

When you got the green card you should have destroyed the EAD card. We were very carefully instructed (several times!) to do this.

It's an important document, you don't want someone to run around with it using your identity! Chop that thing up and throw it away in different parts of town! :D

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

June 4, 2009: Interview - APPROVED!!!

October 11, 2009: Wedding

AOS:

December 23, 2009: NOA1!

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:

March 1, 2012: Mailed ROC package

March 7, 2012: Tracking says "notice left"...after a phone call to post office.

You don't have to go to the SS office just to get a new card. Even though his old card reads "Valid only with DHS authorization" his Green Card IS the work authorization.

So if he is applying for a new job, he has to show his SS card and his GC. Most likely he has to do that anyway, so there's no need to WASTE time going to the SSA office and dealing with those drones for no good reason.

No, except that you're supposed to update your status with the SSA to that of a green card holder (and again when you become a citizen). I Quit has posted about that before, but I'd have to search to remember again what the exact reasoning is.
