So, it is only a month left before we leave to Houston....

We have been putting everything for sale for the last 3 weeks or so and slowly but steady everything has been going and the house looks soooo big now... We have sooo much space...

Our living room suite is gone, so we've nowhere to sit, but on the floor... I've made do with a duvet and a couple of bed spreads but is still as hard as ever....

Yesterday they took the computer table and chair, so we had to put the dining table in the lounge as a substitute...

Some of the other things are going to my MIL when we go and visit her to say good bye a week before we leave and some others are being picked up by my hubby's best mate a day or 2 before we go...

The moving company is picking up what we're moving with us on Aug 21st, so I suppose it'll be even weirder then!

It seems so weird to be getting rid of our stuff, and basically have so little to start over with... Gosh, it scares me sometimes to realise that the date is getting nearer and that we are starting all over again... Just like when we got married.... I think it seems more like that 'cause we are moving the same day of our anniversary, so I suppose is a good way to start!

Just wanted to share this....

Good luck to you, Houston is a very nice area, very diversed, I've been there a few times, mostly in Baytown, very vibrant, you'll have a good time there. Galveston is not too far away, nice place to go to relax but not on Spring break, all the college kids are down there, it can get wild and traffic madness

Gone but not Forgotten!

The bright side is you get to go shopping for new stuff!!! Houston is nice, I was there earlier this year. If you want to try some good Middle Eastern Food, Fadi's cafe is AWESOME and reasonably priced. :star:

O, I hear ya! We have our home here for sale. Our goal is to downsize. Each time we look at a house, I try to figure out which pieces of furniture we will need to liquidate! We're going this evening with our contractor to have a home checked out and if he gives it the structural thumbs up we will make an offer. If it all works out we will need to eliminate a living room suite plus some other smaller pieces.

But I think it's kind of exciting....a brand new place to make a brand new start in!!

My husband didn't bring any of his furniture with him when he moved from the UK. At least you'll have SOME of your things to start over with and maybe that'll make the transition to America a bit smoother. In my husbands house, there was this awesome free-standing kitchen cupboard I would have loved to have had. I can't imagine what it would have cost to freight it to the US. It was sort of like a hoosier cabinet - I have no idea what they call them in the UK but I guess they were sort of a typical piece in irish kitchens in the country. I think my husband's brother might have stashed it away in a garage after we left. If we are ever flush with cash and it's still there, I'd LOVE to add it to our home here.

Guys, thanks for your words!!!

I can't exactly explain how I feel at the mo, is a mixture of EVERYTHING... Excitement to buy new stuff and start anew, frightened that I don't know the place we're going to, happy that we are going to have a better life (we're convinced of that!)... etc....

We are only shiping small stuff, mainly things that we got as wedding pressies and I don't want to get rid of... I can totally see where you're coming from Rebecca, I would have loved to ship EVERYTHING but we can't afford it on the one hand, and on the other it is cheaper to buy them new over there than shipping them, so not worth it, no matter how much I like them....

I am not emotionally attached to any of the things we've sold, but having sold them is just a statement that we are leaving a 'secure' way of living behind to start fresh in an unknown place...

I am sure Houston is nice, and can't wait to get there! I am glad we decided to make it our new HOME... Only 30 days to go now.... not that I'm counting!

It's all a metaphor. Out with the old and in with the new. It's about your life, not just the furniture. It can be a cleansing experience. When you pare down to the true essentials, it's amazing how small the pile really is. There'll be plenty of "stuff" to buy when you shop for your new place. I hope you also fill up your lives with new love, friends, and adventures!
