The x-ray is your for your records. It is advisable to keep it. It is a bit cumbersome but most I know of hand carry it so it doesn't get damaged (thats what we did).

We were K-1 so I am not sure about the package. If you are refering to the sealed package from the consulte, in the case of a K-1, it is given to the CBP at POE and is not returned.

Not sure how it works for CR-1 and if they give you anything back.

When I entered on a CR1 I was not asked for the x-ray (although I did have it just in case) and nothing was returned to me from my package.

If you are concerned about receiving BACK original documents - you can get them back at the interview, on interview day, if you asked for them, OR at the POE, after talking to a CBP supervisor at the POE - ya gotta ask for that person, ask that person to open the sealed envelope containing the original documents that you want to retrieve.

Don't forget, when yer going through the POE (a prior concern of yours) to be adamant about the IR-1 status with the CBP staffers. If they mumble something about 'not my problem' then ask for a supervisor, and don't leave CBP until you get what you want on the IR-1.

oh wow, Yes I am suppose to be an IR1 now.. Thanks for the great advise. Did they give you CR-1 at first and you were persistent about it?

I am just wondering if they keep the original documents for green card purposes. I will definitely want my documents back if they dont do anything with them.

you can get back the marriage certificate, the birth certificate, and thats about it.

The police clearance certificate (another original document submitted with the DS-230) is supposed to 'travel along with the casefile'

Please remember - you are doing 2 things 'out of the ordinary' so expect to spend more time at POE, talk more with CBP officers.

Good Luck !
