Hello MENA,

My husband had his interview yesterday in Cairo. At the end, the interviewer told him mabrouk and that he was OK but that he has to go under a routine administrative review and it will take a few weeks. An Egyptian woman came to talk to him after he said mabrouk and the interviewer turned off his speakers. After they finished he said Oh, you will just have some routine review. They gave him a paper that said the following:

CONSULAR SECTION NOTICE

In order to get an update on your case you should start checking the following website:

http://egypt.usembassy.gov/consular/niv8.htm

Is my visa approved?

Not yet.

What does that mean?

We hope to be able to approve your visa but your application needs to first through further administrative review.

What do I do next?

Please start checking the website one week after the date of your interview.

How long will it take?

It could take one day, it could take several months. Most cases are ready in less than one month. In rare instances more time is needed. Every case is different and we cannot predict how long yours will take.

Should I make a plane reservation?

We encourage u to wait until your visa gets approved before making any travel plans.

What do I do when my visa is ready?

Start checking the website one week after the interview the website will tell you when your visa is ready and if so how to send your passport back to the embassy to receive the visa.

Do I come to the embassy in person?

No, please use DHL to send your passport to the NIV section of the consular section.

Is it possible that my visa will not be approved?

Yes it is possible but either way on rare occasions applicants are refused following AR. The website will let you know if we need to speak with you again about your eligibility.

............

Is this a regular AR procedure? They kept his passport if that makes any difference. Also, the website they gave him on the paper was for Non-Immigrant Visa status... which is weird because we are CR1! The number for that link also was not long enough. :\

I'm confuzzled, to say the least.

Even though I am tempted to say that your visa will be approved and you will be ok, the information they gave and the non-immigrant web link they ask you to check sure does sound very weird. See if you case # can be entered in the web link they provided and see if it has any relevant information, but it does sound weird. Keep positive and I am sure you will be fine...

Sounds like he is in AP..I really hope it does not take long until he has his visa in hand.

Have you called DOS to ask about his interview result or emailed the embassy yet?

Stay positive...it should be over soon isA.

I did call DOS and they said that he was under Administrative Processing. She couldn't tell me if it was at the embassy level or name checks... she said it was a combination of things and that he would just have to wait. She also said it was a standard procedure and when I asked her if it was just a mandatory AP she said it was.

Other than telling me to just wait, that was all.

Insha'Allah it ends in just a few weeks time... we have a second wedding to hold haha.

I also put the number they gave in the box but it is too short so it won't take it. I tried putting our case number in the AP status page on the embassy website as well and our case number could not be found.

:) It's a new way to check the status of AP/AR electronically. The case number could not be found because it hasn't been a week from the interview yet.

I never could check our case status on the embassy's website..The numbers never worked either before or after the interview...
