My I-130s for my wife and son were approved on March 24, 2010. However, NVC still does not have my file as of today, April 18. I used automated system and speaked to operator. Both said that no file on my case. I saw most people received their NVC case number within one or two weeks of I-130 NOA2. I am worried that my files got lost in their way to NVC center. Does anyone know how the files were sent to NVC from CIS? What should I do other than calling NVC again and again?

By the way, when I called NVC, there are four kinds of CIS case number begin with EAC,LIN,SRC,WAC. What does those initials mean. Could those initials make any difference. My one is WAC.

Double-check what the approval notice says. In our case, the adjudicator made a mistake and wrote on the notice that my mother is eligible to apply for adjustment of status (implying that she is currently in the US). She is overseas and has never visited here. These mistakes happen frequently.

In terms of those abbreviations, I think they refer to the center your submitted your I-130 petition to. I think WAC is for California. I could be wrong though.

WAC stand for Western Assessment Centre - California Service Centre. You should be assigned a case number by now. Did you make copies of everything you sent in case there is a problem with NVC not getting the file. They need to track it down because Calfornia is pretty good about moving the file to NVC.

When you check USCIS for case updates, enter your WAC number and see what it says...in other words, was there post decision activity. Are you familiar with USCIS website? You can check your case status by entering your WAC number.

Here is the full text on the NOA2:

The above petition has been approved. We have sent the original visa petition to the Department of State National Visa Center (NVC), 32 Rochester Avenue, Portsmouth, NH 03801-2909. NVC processes all approved immigrant visa petitions that need consular action. It also determines which consular post in the appropriate consualte to complete visa processing.

The NVC will contact the person form whom you are petitioning (beneficiary) concerning further immigrant visa processing steps.

If you have any question about visa issuance, please contact the NVC directly, However, please allow at least 90 days before calling the NVC if your beneficiary has not received correspondence fromt the NVC. The telephone number of the NVC is (603) 334-0700.

The approval of this visa petition does not in itself grant any immigration status and does not guarantee that the alien beneficiary will subsequently be found to be eligible for a visa, for admission to the United States, or for an extension, change, or adjustment of status.

This form is not a visa nor may it be used in place of a visa.

When I called NVC. Both auto system and operator says "we cannot find your case number"

Here is what CIS website says:

Post-Decision Activity

On March 24, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

For approved applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include USCIS sending notification of the approved application/petition to the National Visa Center or the Department of State. For denied applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include the processing of an appeal and/or motions to reopen or reconsider and revocations.

You have electronic notice that the I-130's were approved -

but

do you have postal notice, in the form of a NOA-2, usually in the form of an I-797-C formletter stating approval?

IMO - it's not left NVC until you actually receive that postal letter.

I know, I know - it's been more than 3 weeks now - somethings amiss - I get that... really...

At this point, assume for the moment that EITHER

--USCIS decided to do additional processing on yer case for namechecks or

--the casefile is still sitting on someone's desk or

--somehow, someone decided your casefiles should be sent to storage at National Benefits Center (NBC) or

--it's all been lost on shift-change.

I strongly suggest, at this point, that you contact the USCIS ombudsman's office, and inquire as to exactly WHERE yer casefile is.

re: yer son - if YOU were a USC when yer son was born, you should investigate a 'Consulate Record of Birth Abroad' at the closest US Embassy/Consulate to yer Wife, instead of worrying about his petition.

Usually, USCIS to NVC casefile movement occurs within 3 weeks, unless something else is going on. It's rare, but 'something else' might happen.

Yer portal info has you homed to China - are your wife and child STILL in China? (sorry to ask, but sometimes, if overseas Chinese in other countries, USCIS can get confused about that next step - move to NVC or adjudicate as a local / USA casefile - unless it's absolutely clear that the beneficiaries ARE IN CHINA )

As things progress, and you still have no status on the petitions, remember, you can go to the local USCIS office via an infopass appointment, inquire in face, person to person, for the location of the petitions, and FILE A SERVICE REQUEST, in person. That's always available to you, when things go wonky....

Hang In There !!!

Should the casefile ever get to NVC - wei - you qualify for NVC Electronic Processing - have a read? ->> http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Electronic_Processing (ya, click the link, have a read?) It cuts down the time between 'NVC OUT to GUZ open' from 2 to 6 months.

Good Luck ! and let us know how any further contact with the ombudsman's office turns out, ya?

I was USC. I did not file I-130 while I was LPR on purpose so I could avoid any potentially problem by upgrading my case.

I finally got my case number from NVC. I choosed to use "Electronic Processing" and hope this will speed up my case.

Many thanks to all the friends who commented in this thread.

Wow - such a lag - but at least NVC has it now.

Good Luck with NVC Electronic Processing !!!

The wiki entry, with a mini-how-to, concerns, errata, is over at http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Electronic_Processing

Here's a topic on this forum for a 'recent case' http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/251451-uscis-nvc/

He drove it all, got it all done in a month. You might want to read it, there are good bits in it. He wanted to rush / push, his wife is pregnant and he needed as much speed as possible.

I assume you have 2 I-130 petitions in play, yes? You'll want to make sure they get 'married' together at NVC, so the mother and child have the same interview date.
