It does not say your name is needed on the mailbox, the USCIS states that mail will not be delivered if someone elses name is on the mailbox. If mail is returned by USPS it is solely their fault. People waiting for important mail are not to blame for USPS incompetence.

However the fact is that loads of people have had their GCs and EADs returned to USCIS because of not having their name on their mailbox. You need to read between the lines in that document. Having nobody's name on the mailbox is clearly as bad as having someone else's name on the mailbox.

Whichever way you choose to read that document, my interpretation is the right one.

I'm not sure which lines to read between, received EAD card today with no name on mailbox.

Cheers

That's just the problem. There shouldn't be any need of an interpretation.

Immigrant, congrats on getting your EAD. :)

You played with fire and didn't get burned. Congrats.

Poor Aidan wasn't so lucky.

In this process I wouldn't leave anything to chance personally.

I read that too and I kinda interpret it to mean you need to somehow notify the post office that the immigrant resides at that address, which can be done by filling out a card at your local post office. Which is what we did.

It is not lost on me, however, that in BIG BOLD PRINT the instructions say the name should be on the mailbox.

So for a trip to Walmart you can get sticky letters for less than 3 bucks and solve the problem.

Stupid though isnt it? We have our house number on our box but not our name. We've gotten all our immigration mail SO FAR....

*makes note to buy letters next time at WalMart as we still don't have greencard yet*

I was just gonna say the same thing. We've gotten all our immigration related documents by mail and all we have is our street numbers on the mailbox. But hey, far be it from me to diss the advice of one who knows it all.

Hey, I know you're just trying to be cute here, but I'm not saying I know it all. Far from it.

All I know is that people have had their stuff returned for not having their name on the mailbox, like the OP. Even if this is only 1% of the people who don't have their names on their mailboxes, is it really worth the risk?

I guess not!

Just as an update to this mess...we went to the post office to notify them of our dilemma, and to fill out one of those cards. Well, there was no card to fill out. The lady just had me write our address down on a piece of paper and said something along the lines of, "Ok, well I'll inform your mail carrier that you're at that address." No explanations, no apologies (not that I expected one), nothing. I got the feeling that she had no idea why our mail wasn't delivered...nor did she care. :P

One thing I did find odd...when I informed her that we were expecting a very important document from the USCIS, she quickly looked at Aidan then back to me, then slyly glanced at Aidan again. It was so weird, lol...I mean what was she expecting, a green martian?

Thanks...we were hoping we wouldn't have to drive all the way to Orlando again, but hey, what can ya do...

Who knows, maybe his EAD will come in the mail this week. I doubt it, but it would be nice. :P

I'm glad you finally got your RFE. Hope things go a lot smoother for you from now on!! :)

Maybe, but somehow I don't think she was expecting an Irish person when I mentioned the USCIS. :P
