Sure. Me too. If this is meant to be a serious thread about the effects on family reunification it should be relocated to an appropriate upper forum. So long as it's in OT, and the mods have visited and decided to leave it in OT, I'm with Marc.

Is there such a forum for this situation? You agreeing with Marc I mean.

Where should this topic go? It could affect any number of people --- those trying to visit or currently visiting their loved ones, people waiting to come after receiving a visa, family members just coming to visit on VWP, etc. So which forum should this topic go in?

My question as well. It really doesn't relate to the immigration process and fits most appropriately into the off-topic description. Just because you might not see Off Topic as a forum for serious discussions doesn't mean that others don't, so please adjust your attitudes and treat this as a serious concern and discuss accordingly.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I'll do no such thing, thank you very much. :P

It does belong here, this is a catchall forum.

Alas, I have a German teacher visiting with another teacher and 19 students. They are set to leave Tuesday. On Lufthansa. To return to Frankfurt and then on to Munich. We are thinking they probably won't make it back on Tuesday...

A high school classmate who was about to fly to Copenhagen a few days ago is still in the PH. She said that her flight was canceled with no specific date for rescheduling.

Wouldn't you know it, as soon as we finally finished up with the Nairobi Consulate after nearly 4 months or wrangling for our daughter's visa, a volcano is now keeping us apart! I just cancelled out the tickets for the morning on BA in hopes of rebooking on either Qatar or Emirates as they are still flying regular service to the States. I went over to the airport to see what are the real options from BA. As of now they are rebooking no earlier than 10 days from now but expect the earliest to realistically be about 2-3 weeks before the weather pattern will change enough to get regular service! ARGH!!!! Yes, I even looked at transatlantic cruises but you have to get to Germany or England...that's not realistic now. Now the $3000 question, Why is it nearly impossible to book an east bound flight to the States!?!? United wanted to add a $3000 surcharge to tie an itinerary from Kenya through Hong Kong to Washington!!! But The segments booked separately are almost the same cost as flying through Europe. das ist scheiß! or should I say, Hii ni takataka!!!

So how is the shut down of the European air service affecting you?

What contingency plans have you made if this situation does not subside in a short period?

A cursory search on Expedia turned up the following:

Total price for this trip: $2,585.20

Traveling to Mumbai

Wed 21-Apr-10

You're fortunate that your loved one is not in Europe. Both your departure (NBO) and final arrival (IAD) airports are unaffected by the European grounding. That gives you many more options that those who must transit Europe.

Yes, there will be inconvenience and additional cost. However, considering the circumstances $2585 is not an unreasonable fare if it guarantees arrival of your loved one in the US this week.

I see from your posting that you have completed the visa portion of your loved one's journey and are now at the final phase, namely the joyous travel and reunion with your loved one in the US. Congratulations on this accomplishment!

You may wish to know that there is a subforum on this website specifically targeted to "Moving Here and your new life in America". You are likely to find that in that subforum you will receive more helpful comments to your questions. The forum you posted in, Off Topic, is generally shunned by the more 'serious' members of this website and is unlikely to attract serious responses. As a rule, a posting such as yours that is made in Off-Topic is typically moved to a more relevant forum such as the one I noted. I am not sure why that did not happen in this case.

Once again, good luck!

Every once in a while Marc and I share exactly the same sentiment. Not often, but sometimes.

Watch it. these types of remarks will get you hated from your loved ones.

Not a chance. In case my point was made too subtly, there were actually 2 points. One directed helpfully to the OP. The other not.
