I mean if someone asks me if I read that latest best seller book, I dont beat my chest and proudly point out, "I don't read books."

We had Dish Network installed this weekend for their Arabic package. Now we have Comcast and Dish Network. And about a gazillion remotes. wacko.gif

I use channelsurfing.net for watching live sports, including NFL and CFL games that I can't get. We still pay quite a bit for cable, since my husband is a sports talk show host and we usually have one game (or horse racing) going on the tv, one on his laptop, and one on my laptop. wacko.gif Sundays can be pretty nuts at our house!

You poor, poor dear. (F) Good thing you like sports or you'd be the ultimate football widow.

We have cable it its almost impossible to watch a movie on any of the channels because they are so packed with commercials its actually painful to to sit on any given channel that long.

It would not be so bad if they were different commercials but its the same ones over and over and over....

I can certainly see why some choose to pay for cable or satellite (some live sporting events outside of your local area). I myself have recently "cut the cord" as well - I am a somewhat long-time ex-cable subscriber. My landlord subsidized most of our cable per our rental agreement, and when we bought a house I decided to drop cable when I found out how outrageous their rates actually are. I looked at satellite as well. The rates are better, but if you look closely at your contract you will see that while you are forced to pay an early termination fee if you break your contract, if they decide to raise their rates they can do this in the middle of your contract. Also, if there is any issue with their equipment, you have to pay them to come and fix it, even if the problem is not your fault. This is a disgusting practice and I won't do business with a company that treats customers this way. It's pretty clear that cable & satellite companies don't give a ###### about their customers. Currently, I'm perfectly happy with our bluray player which gives us access to Netflix online (which has a ton of tv shows & movies to watch, many in HD as well) as well a youtube, Pandora, and a few other movie/tv show sites. Coupled with a roof-mounted antenna (to-be-installed), we are perfectly happy with this arrangement. Total monthly cost: about $12 (not counting internet, which needs to be relatively fast to watch streaming HD content).

I noticed the same thing with cable & this also seems to be true of radio, especially AM/talk radio. What's even more sad about AM radio is that many of these commercials are obviously scams yet the station obviously doesn't care about taking advantage of their listeners since they run over & over & over. I was a satellite radio subscriber for a while but dropped that too - wasn't worth what they were charging, not even close. I dropped after they raised their rates.

I would go completely insane if I could not watch my Riders, and of course, they really don't show CFL games in Houston. I have turned hubby into a Rider fanatic, too! kicking.gifkicking.gifkicking.gif Although he still prefers UH Cougars and Houston Texans. Philistine. cool.gif

whenever I get a load of my monthly $130 cable bill (which includes unlimited broadband and HD but no premium channels).

Mine is also $130 and includes 6 premium channels (HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc). No broadband though.

It was very embarrassing when I attended the Pride Parade in Toronto, painted in green and white, pom-poms and everything. Then it was embarrassing because I did not stand out. wacko.gif

Personally, I find the temptation to cut the cord pretty enticing, especially whenever I get a load of my monthly $130 cable bill (which includes unlimited broadband and HD but no premium channels).

Jesus Christ. $130 for HD & "unlimited broadband"? #######?! He better have a 300 Mbps/300 Mbps pipe.

Great, an Argos fan surrounded by Riders' crazies. The All-East TE from Syracuse and Tom Clements and Condredge Holloway passing. Don't mention the Eastern Riders victory over the Western Riders in the Grey Cup, Miss Val might get upset and she'll take it out on a certain overfed cat with a remote. :help:
