I think you need to get one because you "lived" there for 12 months even if you're not a "permanent resident".

Good thing there's a UAE Embassy in Manila it would be easy to get a police certificate.

hello everyone

Thank you all for dropping and read my "post". through my researched this what I found regarding Police certificate abroad. http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciprocity/reciprocity_3698.html#

It says here that Police Records

Available, only if applicant is physically present in the UAE.

Police certificates may be obtained by any person, regardless of nationality, by personally appearing at the Central Police Headquarters located in the emirate of residence or former residence. When appearing to request a police certificate, the applicant should provide recent photographs, a letter from the requesting authority, the date of residence in the emirate, and their passport.

Not available by mail. Post recommends that consular officers waive the general requirement to obtain police certificates unless the applicant lives in the UAE.

Thank you

So please leave some comments about this post..

GOd Bless to All of US.

I would call the UAE embassy in manila. If you are close to manila, I would at least try to get one...all they can do is tell you that you can't.

I know the Reciprocity site says you cant get a police clearance for south korea if you arent present(my wife was there for a little over a year) BUT we were able to get it from the korean embassy. Now, would they have asked for it in Manila? dont know, but didnt want to take a chance for the delay, so we just applied for it. It took 5 weeks to get the police clearance from there.

I dont know how long it takes to get one from the UAE if you can get one...but you would be slowed down for that long and then for the time the US embassy in manila takes to process it after you get the police clearance to them.

What visa are you applying for? (K-1 or CR-1) It makes a difference...if a K-1, you need a police clearance for anywhere you have lived for 6 months...CR-1 is 1 year.

My Visa is IR-1. I called the UAE immigration in Manila and they told me the process of how to get the police certificate in that country and some payments--but they asked me If i knew anyone in UAE ( Dubai ) to do the process of police certificate because all they can give is the request for me to get the certificate in that country.

My problem is -- I don't know anyone in Dubai to do the process of my police certificate.. :crying:

well, if you still have to know someone there, I wouldnt worry about it. If the embassy cant request it...technically you would have to go back there...they dont expect you to make a trip just for police clearance. Just go by the reciprocity site...if it says they are unavailable to someone outside the country...then that is what the US embassy Manila will know already. Dont worry about it. Also, technically feb 2000-january 2001 is only 11 months. 12 months would be getting there and leaving there in the same month or on the same day a year later...that is the way I look at it. Good luck with your visa and interview!

Greetings!

First i would like you to call Manila Embassy and double check with them ,tell them that you read in the United Arab Emirates Reciprocity:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciprocity/reciprocity_3698.html

POLICE RECORDS:

Available, only if applicant is physically present in the UAE.

Police certificates may be obtained by any person, regardless of nationality, by personally appearing at the Central Police Headquarters located in the emirate of residence or former residence. Not available by mail. Post recommends that consular officers waive the general requirement to obtain police certificates unless the applicant lives in the UAE.

P.S. BACK IN 2005 I HAD A HARD TIME GETTING A POLICE CERTIFICATE, PROCESS WAS CRAZY FROM NBI TO UAE EMABSSY THEN TO DUBAI THEN WAITED FOR IT TO BE MAILED BACK TO ME, BUT I GUESS NOW IT CAN BE WAIVED BASED UPON THAT STATEMENT ,SO PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK.

BEST OF LUCK,

GRIFFIN

According to my math - February 2000 to January 2001 is not 12 months, it is 11. The instructions say "lived in a different country for more than 12 months". That's the first thing, the second thing the DOS instructions state "Post recommends that consular officers waive the general requirement to obtain police certificates unless the applicant lives in the UAE" - as you mentioned.

You have three options:

- Try to get the certificate

- Worry about the certificate, even though the two sources state you don't need it

- Ensure you have the documentation from these two sources printed out and take it with you to the interview

Good luck.

I think I have to follow what stated of USA reciprocity because in the first place If I do the process here in Manila still it will not got to the point of getting into Dubai country becuase of not knowing anyone there. And Yes I only lived there 11 months.

Thank you all for the comments at least it cleared up my mind..

God Bless Everyone...

Hello baby44 and all VJ friends. I have 2 questions, hopefully you guys can help me. The first one is more for baby44 -how did you upgrade your petition from K3 to CR1 visa? And the second question, I am quite confused about requirements for police certificate. Besides the one from the country of nationality, police certificate is required for any other country where lived for 6 months or 1 year since age 16?? As far as I know it, for CR1 visa it is 1 year. Does anybody know the requirements for police certificate from overseas for K3 visa?? I would greatly appreciate your help
