It's not likely to happen any time soon. Just look at the results in California, which is considered to be by far the most liberal state in the U.S.. They voted in a law defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

The definition of marriage as between a man and a woman doesn't necessarily

preclude recognition of same-sex unions by immigration law. The same

benefits could be extended to same-sex couples without changing the

definition of marriage country-wide.

Move to the south. ;)

Southern food blows the living hell out of anything in the northern states. Much more variety! AND you can usually find 'real sugar' versions of ####### with the high fructose corn syrup... :)

Agreed. SouthWestern food is nice..

It's on par really if it wasn't for the damn food here. Sometimes I wish there was a big international food convention so you could taste what other food is out there.. then you'd be less likely to accept this swill.

You must live in small town America and came from Sydney. More restaurant choices in larger cities.

apparently boo-yah's name is tony

What's even more apparent is the mental decline of certain members on this board. From nutty to Charles. Come to think of it, all of the loonies on here, and I mean all, do have one thing in common.

No indeedy it's not. Don't know Booyah from a bar of soap.

That said, Australia has won several points from the US:

- health care

- food (in many ways, including but not limited to chocolate, lollies (candy), bread, cheese...)

- real sugar (high fructose corn syrup? ick)

- our "artificial flavours" don't have the aspartame overtone so prevalent here

- higher wages, higher "minimum wage"

America wins verus Australia in reference to:

- lower prices (esp on my much desired KitchenAid mixer, half the price here)

- lower cost of living

- larger array of music

- people are here are typically "larger" so finding clothes is pretty easy

It's on par really if it wasn't for the damn food here. Sometimes I wish there was a big international food convention so you could taste what other food is out there.. then you'd be less likely to accept this swill.

Quality of produce here is not the greatest. Then again, they still have ma and pa butchers, fruit stories, deli's and locally grown produce there. Most farmers I have speakon with or seen in the region here grow corn or similar other #######, rather than vegetable or or other healthy produce.

Speaking about prices, I have a Cuisinart coffee maker that grinds the beans that we purchased from Macys for about $120. I saw the exact same machine in David Jones the other week for $320.

Nope. I'm from small town AUSTRALIA and live/d in Houston as my first "food experience".

In either event, I'm not referring to restaurants, I'm referring to groceries.

So not surprised... David Jones and Myers jack up the prices so bad. I used to work for Myer and saw the "purchase price" of things and then the mark-up.

Re the kitchenaid mixer.. Mum won a KitchenAid mixer the other day in Australia, its worth AU$730. If I bought the same machine in the US (which I plan to do and will sell the one she won to pay for it) it will cost me US$299. RIP OFF!
