Basic Flight Question

I've got two emails awaiting replies, plus I've been on hold for a half hour with Delta for what should be a simple question. My Ira is flying back to Russia to visit family on Monday. She's flying from DFW to JFK to SVO... When I drop her at DFW, should I drop her off at the Domestic gate (since she's going to New York to connect), or at the International gate (since Moscow is the ultimate destination on her ticket)?

Thanks,

ZS

Also, the volcanic eruptions in Iceland is screwing up air travel in the north Atlantic and Europe. Might want to check into that before you drop her off as well...

All Delta flights DEPART from ONE and ONLY ONE terminal, no matter where they go to: the DELTA terminal. Only arrivals may use a different terminal, depending on the airport (not JFK).

Domestic, she will have to walk to the international terminal at JFK.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

Yeah, I heard about that. She doesn't fly until Monday, but even still, it's rotten luck. Even if the sky is clear, these past few days of canceled and delayed flights is going to make JFK (and probably SVO as well) a madhouse.

On the bright side, if she can't make it because of the volcano, I don't see how it could be pinned on me. :)

Oh ye of little faith. Of course it can be pinned on you. You don't have to see how.

In case it was not understood in my previous post, there is only ONE Delta terminal at JFK. It is very large, so she'll have to walk to her connecting gate, but she will not have to go to the street or another terminal for that matter. Even DELTA arrivals occur on the same terminal no matter where they come from, so her connection at JFK will be on the same terminal, in the larger hall with more gates.

If you had made the plan earlier, she would have been able to go. Therefore, it is YOUR fault.

I'm was more concerned with where I should drop her at DFW. But thank you for your reply, and your clarity. :)

I'm going to go hide, now, until the dust settles (pun absolutely intended).

Been following the volcano situation, and it looks like Delta's playing it safe. Aeroflot and Aerosvit ran their JFK/SVO runs yesterday and made it, and today's flights are all running as scheduled. Delta, on the other hand, has canceled yesterday and today. Tomorrow is a wild card.

I wonder, though, if this is indicative of Russian intrepidity vs Western paranoia, or if it's just another reinforcement that safety comes second for Aeroflot while they fly their rickety jets through clouds filled with engine-damaging #######...

Some European airlines (KLM, Lufthansa and BA) have flown some test flights through the ash, and there's been no damage reported. It's sounding more and more like the airspace closures are an overreaction to an overstated problem.

I've heard similar reports. Hopefully that means my wife's flight will lift off on time and as usual tomorrow.

Thanks!

We are following the situation closely, as Vika's best girlfriend is due to leave for Ukraine in a couple of weeks. We also bought tickets to London in June. Hope it is cleared up or some solution is found before then.

^^ I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, Vika, and her friend. Safe travels to you all.

Ira landed safely in Moscow early this morning (or late last night, depending on your time zone), and reports that her flight was uneventful. She did say it ran a little longer than usual -- no doubt due to the unusual flight plan.
