Hi,

My wife and I recently had an interview in London for an IR1 visa.

Unfortunately, I didn't realise that my wife had to file an affidavit of support along with a joint sponsor, so we got the 221g blue slip at the interview.

My wife is the petitioner, but she does not qualify with income or assets. The consular officer told us that we still need to complete the form regardless, and provide a bank statement to show our current savings (which isn't a great deal).

My question is, how do we fill out part 7 of the affidavit, as we have a joint bank account?

Thanks.

Two ways.

You can split it between you - or just have the petitioner fill in the first part with the full amount.

Do you have a joint sponsor?

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Hi,

Yes, we have a joint sponsor (my father in law). His income has met the conditions of the affidavit, but only just. The CO said it's borderline, but they didn't require another sponsor. The bank statement is a bit of a worry, as I haven't had the chance to save too much yet.

Ah - that is why they want to see your savings. Normally, if you have a co-sponsor, the onus is on them to make the income level, however, since it's "borderline", they are making double sure I suppose.
