Chirac now says France could nuke a state that was merely "considering" the deployment of WMD...

Unjustifiedly. The French lost 500.000 soldiers defending France against the Germans; there are other nations, e.g. the Netherlands, that put up much less resistance (invasion of NL took only 3 days) and that were much more willing to cooperate.

500.000? Interesting slip :P

She's German. It's the correct format there. ;)

 Yep! Rest of world (ROW) uses words like "bloody" and measures things in meters and grams. They also use the . instead of the , and several other little things that we "Yanks" don't know squat about because the French saved our @$$#$ in the late 1770's.

So, it's the French's fault that Amercians can't get with the program?

India (an ex-Brit colony) doesn't use the comma for a decimal point. They use the dot like we do.

It is the French's fault that we are the way we are today. If they wouldn't have assisted us, we'd still be British. (In theory)

And India, is VERY progressive. They also say things like "Sorry sir, do not worry about your internet connection. I will guide you through the process of logging on and securing your server. Please stay on the line and I will...... "

Not everyone flips the commas and dots. However, a lot of countries do. I think I'm going to go ask Jeeves where this came from. Quite an interesting query.....

You left out the rest...

Just asked Jeeves, and what I could come up with was that most of the English speaking world (which now includes India... although they group numbers differently, Agent Smith, do you know what a lakh or a crore is?) does it the way we do. The rest of the "non-English speaking" world uses the commas where we use the decimals.

So.... once again, it's an English thing. And if the French wouldn't have hated the English enough to help out the rebels here in the New World, well... we'd still be using the commas instead of decimals.

OK, here's a real stumper for you..... HOW THE HELL DO YOU SCORE A CRICKET MATCH???? (That's an Indian-themed question. I spent the better part of Saturday night trying to get this gorgeous Indian girl to explain what the hell a "wicket" was and how the batsman does business and, and, and, who cares.... do you want another drink?)

Oh my! These are the same people that can not get luggage on the proper plane!

For anyone who has traveled through CDG airport and had the experience, I have spoken with several people who have, can you imagine them having nukes! <shudders>

Fischkoepfin,

Agreed with the opening "Unjustified.", but your comparison with the Netherlands is also unjustified. A glance at a map shows that resolve can't overcome size and geography.

Yodrak

Chirac is insane! And he has been that way ever since he took office in the 1990s.

The French have one of the largest nuclear arsenals and unlike other nuclear nations they have been busy testing their nukes, redesigning their rocket systems, and increasing their warheads.

Never underestimate those Frenchies... ;)

Good for them, if true. They've lived with the cheese-eating-surrender-monkey stigma due to their collaboration with the Nazis long enough...

Ooops. That's what happens when you're stuck in Europe for too long...
