WOW! who is she to tell you what your name should be. I'm glad I didn't have her doing my interview.

Lol you've got a nerve don't you? joke. Its just that If we are going to apply for US citizen someday then you gotta need to follow how it is in US. :)

Congrats!

How can she say that change your name? Even many american women keep their maiden name these days.

Its a matter of how we used our names in the Philippines and US varies.

Ok here in America lets say for example the name is Shane Love Parker.

Shane (first name) - given name by parents

Love (middle name)- part of given name by parents

Parker (last name) - father's last name

In the philippines ex: Mary Jane Suarez Rodriguez

Mary Jane (first name)

Suarez (middle name) - from our mother's last name

Rodriguez (last name) - from our father's last name

and if we get married in the Philippines we used our father's last name as the new maiden name.

(which the one i followed)

for ex: Mary Jane Suarez Rodriquez married to USC John Day.

new name in Phil: Mary Jane Rodriquez Day

But in US it is: Mary Jane Suarez Day.

Well I for one, I'm glad that here you don't need to change your name at all. My mom never did, and I'm following her footsteps. That's the beauty of the United States :)

Congratulations on the successful interview!

I also find the officer's remark about your name very strange, it's up to the person after all. I assume she meant it in a friendly way, but still it is no rule or a part of becoming American. The US is a very diverse country after all.
