Hello!

I have a quick question about the I-134. My mother is acting as a co-sponsor for us because I am currently a full time student. I know she needs a letter from her employer - do I need one from my college?

Thanks!

Since you are not contributing any money to the support at this time there is nothing to gain from a letter from the school. I think for the letter of employment that is more frosting on the cake than really anything of any real consequence. They want the pay stubs and tax transcripts or statements to back up assets used in lieu of income.

Its been a couple of years since i had to deal with this issue, but when i was applying for k1 my wife (the USC) had to have her father be the co-sponsor because she, like you, was a full time college student making waitress wages.. so.. her father got a letter from his CEO stating how much he makes and how long hes been employed.. we also needed a copy of his most recent tax return and bank statements.

They are more interested in someone's "proof of employment"... they do not require someone's "proof of unemployment"

Moving thread to:

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion

You are almost there and now you have to deal with the embassy. This is the place to post your experiences or questions related to this last step before moving to the US. Topics relating to I-134's, packets sent from consulate and medical & police certificates should be posted here.

Was your college paying you? If not, then you don't need a letter from them. If you didn't file a tax return then you may need to include a statement explaining why you didn't file. Not having any income is a valid reason not to file a tax return. Being a full time student looks better for the affidavit than "I couldn't find a job".
