Understanding the Reading & Writing section of the test

No doubt this question has been asked before.

I've been studying the 100 questions part & I'm doing well at that section but came across this writing & reading section. At the beginning, these documents have a list of words. What are we supposed to do with those words, put them in a useful sentence? i'm abit puzzled on what to do with them, if any?

The reading and writing test is ridiculously basic. They dictate a sentence to you that you have to write out. And they make you read a sentence. There's no word scramble. That list of words is the sum total of the English language you need to know to become a US citizen. The spelling and grammar displayed by your post above shows a level of literacy light years beyond the minimum threshold tested for by USCIS.

If your mother tongue is english (which it is), don't give the reading and writing a second thought

My one son was asked to write and read "Washington is the father of our country" and my other son was asked to read and write "Thanksgiving is in November".....

Yes, the words are key words that USCIS wants you to know... I went quickly over some other members' threads that shared their experience:

Example 1:

Read: "Thanksgiving is in November"

Write: "Washington was the father of our country".

Example 2:

Read: "When is Columbus day?"

write: "Columbus day is in October"

I think you will get the idea behind it....

The words in the list are all contained within the 100 questions so if you have studied the questions, you know the words. With one single exception everyone who has reported stated that they were asked to read one of the actual test questions as their reading test and then write the answer to one of the test questions as dictated by the interviewing officer. Spend your time studying the test questions and you will have no problems with anything else. Good luck.
