From my understanding the mental exam MUST be done in Vietnam, but you can get it done in 1 day and it is not that expensive. Jerome

That's correct. I had mine done in the US, but just ended up re-doing it in VN. It was actually a pretty fun experience. I wore my "American" shorts and was asked to leave. We ended going to the corner market and got a pair of jeans and just going back right after. :)

There was something that I saw where there was a 7 to 15 day option to speed up the License being issued, I have not been able to find it again for a link, but your fiancee can go to the justice department and get the papers for free, then fill them all out. The things that take time are getting things certified, and if you are pushed for time I would say for you to arrive on a monday morning or sunday night so that monday morning you can get the affidavit of single status done at the consulate, then go to Chao Ray hospital for the mental exam, pay extra and get the results back in a few hours, you will also need to get certified copies of your passport usually done in the local police station in Vietnam, then with all the required papers go to the external relationships department to have them all certified, this takes two days, so then wednesday you can go and pick them up, and go to the justice department and turn in the paperwork, I think you might be able to have them speed up the process a bit with a little coffee money, but not sure, when we went it was 1 week later for the interview then 26 days later for us to go and sign the license. The only thing we paid to have hurried is the Chao Ray report, I think it would have been done the same day, but in like 4 or more hours, and we did not want to wait that long or come back since it is quite a ways out there. You might be able to get your affidavit done in a US conculate in the US, but not certain on this or not, If you want the number of the guy that charges $300 for your fiancee, then PM me and I will send you it, he might be able to help get everything done ahead of your arrival, or even speed the entire process up faster. Jerome

oh yeah you can definitely get that affidavit of single status in the US Consulate, cost me 30 bucks, ah don't waste your money doing it in America like i did, It didn't even get done in time for me to use. what a waste of good American money

I do not know why you are needing power of attorney, and not everything needs to be notorized when it is turned in to the embassy. The timeline is the only thing that needs to be notorized besides any divorce decree, and they dont "have" to be notorized since most of the things that they ask for are originals. If you want things to get notorized you can go to the bank that you bank with and get these things done for free. Jerome

The power of attorney was in the paperwork needed that was to be downloaded and not gotten from the State Attorney. If you mean how to get the State attorney general stamp then go to their website and look it up. After you get the notary stamp then send it to the correct department at the State attorney general along with the fee. They will affix their stamp to assure that the notary stamps are good. Then yes you have to do this before you send the paperwork to the VN embassy as they are the ones requiring this to be done. Don't remember the fee but just call them and they will tell you because it has been about two years since I called them and it was 200 dollars I believe but I could be wrong.

Thanks,

I tried to call them but no one ever pick up, I guess i called in the wrong hour for them. I have everything ready except the notary process. Quick question, on the " To Khai ket hon", does it require both of our signatures? Should i have my psychiatrist check me out first? Or should i wait untill i get back in VN?

I think the license requires both of your signatures, your psychiatrist can not do your mental exam, it MUST be done in Vietnam, read the posts. People have tried to have it done in the US and they have had to have it done again in Vietnam, this is nothing to worry about it takes only one day, but you will still need things translated, this will take a few days, with a few more Dong it can be done even quicker, and I am sure the same for getting the license back for the both of you to sign. Good luck Jerome

I did my mental examination in Houston, Texas USA. I went to a Van Phong Dich Vu place and they took care of all my single status paperwork, mental exams, and all necessary paperwork to get married at su tu phap in Vietnam. They just submitted all forms to the Vietnam consulate in Washington DC and the Vietnam consulate sent me all the paperwork back necessary to get my marriage papers done.

We should complain to Secretary of state Clinton about the poor customer service at one of her consulates.whistling.gif

Yeah, that would work rofl.gif To bad there is not anything people can really do, everyone talkes about due process and honesty and such, yet money talks and BS walks. But people would be bored in a perfect world, so this is just what we are left with.

If you can convince her that it will help her win the presidency in 2016 then she might do something.
