Hi, I am new to this forum and just have a few questions.

First...I am soooo glad to find this forum. Some of the other forums on Cuba are awful !

I have been in a relationship for 2 years with my partner in Cuba. I have been there 3 times and we hope to get married sometime soon, although right now we are just researching and considering the options. We are most likely considering the F-1 visa. I have some Cuba specific questions though. In terms of the PVE and PSI...which do you think is better ? I know the PVE is temporary and that the PSI takes longer to receive. Is it ok to leave on a PVE while you are waiting for the PSI to process ? Also, he is concerned about loosing too much in terms of his Cuban citizenship. He has a young daughter and needs to be able to return and wishes to maintain his property rights, if that's even possible once he formally gets US citizenship ?

I am pretty solid on the F-1 process and everything on the American side...I have some friends who have married and went through the process. But, if someone could explain the Cuban process and suggest the best options considering our situation. Just some personal stories and suggestions would be great.

Thanks !!! Also, I would love to just chat with people who are in a good healthy relationship with someone in Cuba. Really, I posted some questions on a few other Cuba sites and had some very bitter people attack me questioning my relationship etc... It would be nice to just talk about the ins and outs of maintaining the relationship, immigration issues and other stuff.

Hi I am new to this site too but just so u know this website is great and your gonna meet lots of people who are going to help you a lot :)

I don't know what PVE or PSI is, but I do suggest that you get F1-visa because its much faster! If you get married in Cuba the proccess is much longer and you have to apply here for another type of visa that takes more time.About his cuban citizenship he is never going to lose it because he was born in Cuba, once he is here he can go to Cuba as many times as he wants, when he gets his resident card, and after he becomes a U.S citizen he still is able to go to Cuba and come back any time he wants since Obama changed the restrictions for the cubans.I am cuban and I obtained my citizenship through neturalization, and let me just tell you I am free to go to Cuba any time, actually this year I have gone to Cuba 2 times to see my fiance. :)

And about the property rights in cuba, there are no rights for cuban people who live there, once you leave the country legaly or illegaly the government takes away everything you have under your name (house ,car etc....),what he can do is find a way to leave legaly his property to a family memmber.

sincerely,

Zsila

hola,

as with cuba, you can only share your experience, since people with similar cases may receive different instructions when it comes to the cuban side.

our story, i hope it helps shine some light on other couples doubts, goes like this:

met in may '10.

in december decided to file for k-1 visa (fiancee) after knowing it takes less time to process than k-3 (spouse).

after collecting all the documents required, went through the interview and got k-1 visa in oct '11.

in our case, decided to get a PVE (permiso viaje exterior) takes less time to process on the cuban side.

i had to write a letter of invitation (call the cuban interest section in washington (202) 797-8518 - 20 to ask for the sample which they email to me. be patient, i had to wait 20' of phone ringing. http://www.cubadiplomatica.cu/sicw/EN/ConsularServices.aspx#LetterofInvitation)

once you write the letter take it to public notary for certification, then city hall for certification #2, then to state capital for apostille.

when you get the letter back with all the stamps and certification send it to cuban interest section in washington w/ $156 money order. check this amount before at their site or call them.

they send it to cuban immigration to continue the process in cuba, now your cuban sweetie can pick it up to complete the exit permit.

then he/she can purchase the ticket to fly to us (only purchased in cuba).
