Packets 3+4 in Jamaica

Hi everyone. My fiance is in Ocho Rios and I am in Illinois. I have been told that packet 3 was mailed out to him on March 16, however, 3 weeks now have gone by and he has not received it. I was able to download and complete the DS-230, part I and II and I sent them to my fiance who then signed accordingly and then forwarded them to the embassy in Kingston. I feel like we are at a standstill. The embassy is saying they have not received the DS-230 that he sent. Is there anything we can do in the meantime to get things rolling? Once the embassy receives this form, will they send a letter with an appointment date for the interview? And will they send it to me in the states or to him in Jamaica? Is it normal for mail to be this slow in Jamaica? Should we re-print the forms and have him send them again via courier or dhl/fedex? I am confused and have so many questions. Thanks for any suggestions!

I think I answered you before and sent you the link to what is in packet 3. You really don't need to physically receive Packet 3 because honestly, I don't think you will get it. Alot of us in the yardie thread never received it. Your best bet is to do your DS-230, email to your fiance, have him sign it. Make at least 2 copies of it. Mail one from Ocho Rios to Kingston (however you want fed-ex, snail mail, whatever). We even made an appt at the consulate and they allowed my fiance to fill out is DS-230 right then in there (of course they charged him a small fee, we haven't figured out that one till this day) As soon as you do that, I guarantee Packet 4 will find its way to your fiance. Good luck

You need to know that NOTHING in this process is fast. You can send the DS-230 as many times as you like, they will schedule your appointment when they want to. It stinks but thats the way it goes.

Hey, thanks for your quick response, and yes you did answer me before. The information was really helpful! I did complete the DS-230 and sent it to my fiance. He signed it and sent it to Kingston. The post office in Ochi told him they couldn't send it priority mail or next day service or anything like that. He mailed it from Ochi on March 30 and the embassy says they haven't received it yet. Do I just keep emailing the embassy until they get it? I just don't want to get lost in the shuffle, know what I mean? So, when they do receive it will they automatically set up an interview date for us and will they send a letter with this appointment date to him in Ochi or to me in the states? Oh, I have another question for you. He has to travel to Kingston next week to apply for the police certificate and he is trying to obtain his old vaccination records from family in Portland. Does he really need that record to have the medical exam and if he doesn't receive the packet 3, is there a specific form he needs in order to get the medical exam? Thanks again for your information! It is so helpful!

Hi Sarah I am also doing a K1 visa I sent my ds230 part 1 only via email to the consular embassy email address. the responed with an interview date with in 5 days. Email the form. and ask them to please email you back with the interview packet as the jamaica mail is very slow. I had to ask them to resend packet 3.

But in the me time he needs to gather all the documents needed. My fiance did his two weeks ago and is still waiting on the impediment to reach him. everything takes time in Ja.

When you email make sure to include your KNG # and Your case number request the email you back with the date

IT WORKS!!!

Sarah makes sure he has his passport and his TRN card or a temporary card as he would need it to do his Police Certificate. As for the vaccine card I believe he will need that but I think he can go to the clinic in his parish and obtain a new one. That is what my Fiance did today he lives in Clarendon. he also got two vaccine shots as it is cheaper at the clinic than the medical doctor office. And if he has never been married before he is going to need to go for the impediment and they say the mail it to you...UUUGGGHH I hope ours reach in time.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Hi and thanks for the information. I didn't know it was acceptable to email the DS-230 to the embassy. I thought the form had to be signed. How did you go about this? Also, do you know where he obtains the certificate of non-impediment to marriage? thanks!

The Ds230 has to be signed have him scan it after he signs in pdf format and then email it with a copy of his passport attached. The impediment form is at the registar office in spanish town.. Plus if his fathers name is not on his birth paper he should tell them.. Because they have my fiance form held up because his father info is missing...He does not have to fill out anything he just have to give them the birth paper and his passport.

Yes you need the non-impediment stating he has never been married before. You can get it from this site:

http://www.rgd.gov.jm/ the cost is two different prices depending on how quickly you want it.

I recommend that you go pick it up though, mail service is very slow in JA.

If you look at this link which is found above when you click on the "embassy" tab, you will see two email addresses for the consulate...you can email your inquiries to both. One of them has 5 days to respond to your inquiry. I didn't have too many issues when I had to email them. Once they notify you that they have received the DS-230, they will send out packet 4 (Interview letter) You can also call the NVC to ask what the interview date will be once you are sure that the consulate has received the DS-230.. Those two offices keep in touch with one another. They(consulate) will mail a copy to you and the original letter to the beneficiary. Make sure you bring it with you to the interview.

I'd like to make a suggestion that was very helpful to my husband since I was unable to attend the interview.

1. Purchase an accordian file... one that has at least 8 to 10 slots. Label each slot ex.: NOA 1, NOA 2, Letters of Intent to marry, G-325, Non-impediment, police report, etc....

2. Make a copy of ALL documents, one for you, one for hubby and one you are going to present at interview. If you are going to the interview, Take your copy with you, (even though fiance has his)

3. Sit down together and go through each document, both of you check to see if you have everything that is required. (I did this with hubby over the phone) believe me two heads are better than one...

I hope this was helpful....

Yes MrStee,

I love your advice..I have a copy of everything, plus he has his copies and another set for which he will present to the embassy.

I was just up there and we sat and went over everything together just in case I was not going to make it back for the interview...But thank God the ticket is not that High and I will be able to be there with him... I only hope that we will be able to return together...
