Sim cards will work in any 'unlocked' phone. You can have most phones unlocked. Look on e-bay for people to unlock your phone.

Pay-as-you go phones are cheap to buy but expensive to own.

I was wondering about that . . . I looked at some website selling unlocked phones and they don't seem to be any cheaper to buy. Then you have to get the sim for the country you want to be in??? I found a website selling sims for Egypt.

I am thinking I can take my phone to Egypt and just get a sim there . . . actually, I guess I am not sure how all this works. I have a sim in the phone. I need to get it unlocked? It is the sim that gets unlocked?? Then if I take it to Egypt, i can get it loaded there?? Ok, I am off to the Egypt board that I frequent to ask that question.

Thanks!

You could buy a phone from AT&T (or any company) and have it unlocked. That unlocked phone can be used with any other company now. Any other country too (if they use the phones frequencies)

unlocked phones aren't cheaper cuz the company doesn't get any hiden fees for it. If you sign a contract with a phone it's always cheaper as you pay for it with our monthly fee.

Some unlocked phones are cheap but not very good.

I don't know bout here but in Germany if a phone is locked it's only for 2 years, after that you can put any card in the phone.

you can check on ebay, they have quite some phones on there, just look for the desciption "unlocked" or "no SIM lock"!

Also, the companies can unlock the locked phones but they might be reluctant to do this as they want you to buy their stuff.

You can just pay someone to unlock pretty much any phone. Here is just one company...

I have bought an unlocked phone off e-bay with no problems. I also had my At&t phone unlocked (via the internet) and use it when I go to Thailand. I just buy a sim card at a 7-11.

Debs and I got a matching pair of Cingular phones over the summer but I actually preferred the size and functionality of my old Nokia whcih I'd brought with me from the UK. I tried my cingular SIM card in what used to be my old Orange Nokia and suprise suprise it didn't work.

I looked online and found a website called uniquephones.com. I read through the details of how the site worked and as I had just enough left in my UK bank account I thought I'd give it a go. It worked an absolute charm and now I'm using my Cingular SIM card in my much loved Nokia.

It costs $2 to get the list of unlock codes for your particular phone. if the first ones doesn't work go onto the next one and so on until It works. mine unlocked on the first go which was very impressive. I was a bit unsure but would reccommend this site to anyone.

I'm 99% sure that if you bought one of the pay as you go phones from somewhere like Walmart, using a site like the one i linked to above would unlock it for use with you cingular SIM card !!

Mark :)

Good tip. Nokia rocks. I will never own anything else.
