This is an excellent series. I remember viewing it years ago and then I watched a rerun last night on PBS, "The Anatomy of a Corporate Takeover."

The panel of guests is like a who's who - last night Warren Buffet was on (1989).

This series uses the Socratic method to build analytical skills and examine ethical questions. The programs aim to sharpen moral reasoning without favoring a particular position by exploring ethical dilemmas in legal, political, medical, corporate, and military arenas. Panelists include Antonin Scalia, Faye Wattleton, and Peter Jennings.

For those here who enjoy these political discussions - I'd highly recommend watching the series.

Interesting - I'll have to give that a look. On balance, I'm still a little unsure why it is that people here always seem to be on the side of big business even when it conflicts with their own self-interest (the health insurance industry being a prime example).

Wow. I thought if anyone else here has seen the series here it would be you.

Definitely look up the local programming on PBS to see when they air it next.

...In last night's episode there were two clearly opposing viewpoints as to the purpose or responsability of a corporation. One of the panelists, Sir James 'something' was very passionate in saying the old model of companies being loyal to it's employees or the community didn't work. He was an unpologetic capitalist who said the ONLY responsability he has is to his shareholders and in effect, profit. Another panelists was the current CEO of Goodyear Tire, who was in total disagreement. He said that he owes it to his employees and to the larger community, this country to ensure we don't dwindle away our economy which means protecting business from this 'free market'. I'm not doing a good enough service - you'd have to watch it.

?????

The bigger the business...the better price they can get on health insurance for the employees. Its called volume discount.

How do you explain your position,.....or you call that a position.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

One of the reasons America is so successful is because it's very business-friendly. The costs of

setting up a business are very low and the tax laws are weighted in favour of businesses so they

can thrive and expand and create more jobs.
