Hi, I just got a rejection notice for the I-485. They want a check for $930 and another for $80, instead of the $1010 check I sent. I'm wondering if I keep the rejection notices (and the rejected checks) when resending the documents. Is there anything else I neeed to do? It just says to resend it.

Also, did they go through the entire applications? Is that the only problem? Or did they see that and not go through it at all? It looks like they went through it...

This sounds very odd unless they have changed the payment requirements since December 2009, when we filed.

I don't have advice for sending the old check/rfe letter with your application. Someone else should respond to that.

As far as them going through it, it doesn't mean that's the only thing wrong with it. You can receive an RFE at any step in the process. The people who went through you things probably had a sheet of paper/checklist they check off and when they see an issue they send it back with an RFE. If you received your entire packet back it means they haven't assigned you a case number yet.

Good luck and I hope things move quickly for you once you send this back in.

I just sent it back today (the benefit of having a Post Office open on Sunday). Coincidentally, the return receipt from the initial delivery finally arrived.

I'm really disheartened by this. I went through everything with a fine-tooth comb. I read the official instructions they have on their site, instead of blinding following the extremely useful guide here for fear of any updates or changes.

I sent everything back, with the rejected checks Xed-out. All the documents had serial numbers along the right side, and everything clearly was gone through and organized in their fashion (cover letters removed, files collated together different than we had them, supporting documents in bulk instead of attached to associated document, etc.). I'm hoping this means they went through everything and want these documents back.

That's strange. I sent in a check for $1010 as well, although I did note on the checklist on the cover page that it was $930 + $80.

If there was something else wrong with your application, they would have addressed it in your noa.

We sent in $1080 and also made a wrong selection on section two of the I-485, and they addressed them both.

All we did was scratch out the selection we made, and chose the correct one, then sent it back just as how we received it with the correct fee $930 and $80(separate money orders).

We got a RFE because i did not send in a medical. Now we are awaiting our may 11 interview

Thanks for the reassurance! It would be such a relief if that was the only issue! I hope it goes through smoothly this time. It was sent out on Sunday with an expected delivery date of Wednesday.

That's odd that your check got rejected. From USCIS instruction it says "You may send ONE check for $1010". Can't figure out why they would reject it. I'm sending my AOS later this week with one check for $1010.
