Happy Sunday everyone!

It's a rainy day here in Florida. We were planning on going to the Air Show this afternoon, but canceled our plans and I'm going to try out a Corden Bleu recipe I have for dinner instead :P

How's the weather where you are?

Hope everyone is having a good day! (F)

Good morning!

I don't know what the weather is yet, but I will soon because I have to go to work.

I hope it's as nice as it was yesterday.

Aya, good luck with the recipe. I love trying new recipes.

I was just curious as to what has been the biggest culture shock for you so far?

What have you liked best and least? Oh, and what do you miss most about Egypt?

Hope everyone has a terrific day.

I'll try it tonight and if it comes out good I'll share the recipe! Don't want to make anybody sick :P

I wouldn't say I had a culture shock yet, John makes sure I feel at home..we go to the mosque a few times a week and meet Egyptian and Middle Eastern friends, we went to the international food store in Fort Myers twice in 3 weeks and he's been very encouraging and supportive about me cooking Egyptian food most of the week.

A few things I don't get are..how come fresh vegetables and fruit are more expensive than forzen food!! It's the other way around in Egypt.. I am used to eating healthy fresh food, and not forzen processed food.. We are fixing that now by planting and growing our own vegetables..we already got the soil and seeds and will do that as soon as the kids' spring break is over.

It also took me a few days to get used to the sleeping and waking up hours...I had insomnia for the 5 last years which helped with the 7-hour time difference John and I had for 2 years..now I sleep early and wake up early, I'm really not used to it, but starting to...eh slowly.. It's healthier after all.

It shocked me the first few days too to see that here the sun is not up in the sky at 6 a.m..in Cairo sunrise starts at 5:30 somtimes.. I mentioned that to an Irish friend and she told that in Ireland sunrise is usually at 4:30 a.m.. The same happened when I had a layover in London..all that was new to me!

Also, parenting methods are a lot different between here and there..In Egypt, and the Middle East in general, we are brought up to never say no to our parents or older family members and if we have to say 'no' then we go around it so as not to hurt their feelings..here everybody speaks their mind and family and older friends can advise you without interfering with your life or decisions which is good in a way.. However, I would like our children to have the freedom of speech you have here and at the same the same respect and sense of responsibility (which sometimes is excessive there, but is still good).

Other than that..I like most of the things I've seen..I like how big the streets are..how green everything is and the shape of the buildings in Florida.. I love my in-laws (they've been very nice and supportive since the beginning of our relationship) they make sure what I can and cannot eat whenever we have family dinner and always make sure I feel comfortable.

We get looks most of the time when we are out shopping or at a park or something..seems it's very uncommon here seeing a Middle-Eastern-looking hijabi girl with a blond American man lol.. We love the confused looks though!

now that you mention it, I don't think it's very common here either. :-)

you are right about fresh fruits and veggies being more expensive. Actually, heathy food in general is more expensive here then the junk food.

I don't know how close you are to a farmers market, but you might have John ask around. Sometimes you can get better prices and I like it better.

Children are raised here differently. I think a lot of that has to do with the laws...but with that said, every family is so different in the way they raise children.

I am glad that you haven't experienced any real culture shock.
