Trompe -- I nominate you and Alan to be in charge of the article on whingeing about bacon, bread, cheese, kettles and duvets.

Kyle doesn't read the forums much, but he totally agreed and jumped all over that. It's about as crazy as me going into a Co-Op asking the meat dept for some "hamburger meat" and "american cheese" this past summer. They just looked at me...I think I embarrassed Kyle.

Another section that goes along with the sports, is how to actually find/watch bbc channels, etc. online. :-) Kyle has found a way and loves watching his f1 again.

Can you tell me what he watches? I had several websites from old posts, but some of them have gone pear shaped. Nick watched the last race mostly on a German channel. The Slingbox we left in the UK quit working and we haven't been back yet to see if it can be fixed.

watching football/rugby/cricket in the US

This suggestion. It's easy to miss the smaller stuff in amongst the whole getting a visa and moving. But I can tell you once here, it was so frustrating having to try to work out from scratch who shows what. I am a bit of a sports nut, and Cindy hates sport so she knew nothing about sports coverage. I love Football (ahem, the foot kind), F1, Cricket and the rest. Getting a lot better at finding who shows what but it was a painful process and a lot of missed matches.

Christi and Ian -- ANYTHING on the K3 would be great! And IR1/CR1 stuff is much appreciated.

MattHeartCass -- I like lemon cake. ;) Just kidding. I prefer chocolate. No really! Anything on the K1 process would be good.

I took a nap (so sue me -- I was up at 6.45am on a Saturday to go grab a dim sum breakfast, you'd need a nap too, what with the early start and the incipient food coma) and as I was drifting off I was thinking about this -- topics should be built by teams and then monitored and kept healthy by one or two people. If we have as many people as possible at the beginning, we can all contribute our little pieces of knowledge. Poiteen was the real pioneer in getting the wiki going (she wrote the first UK DCF page), so I might ask her about helping me expand Nich's UK wiki by putting down additional placeholders in the existing page. We'll probably need more pages at some point when the single-page format starts to be unwieldy.

Hmmmm. A lot to consider! So we have Matt and Christi (or Cass and Ian?) down for K1 and K3/CR1/IR1, and I'm happy to tidy up the existing UK DCF info. More! We need more!biggrin.gif

Well, Matt and Cass - and Christi and Ian ;)

I like chocolate cake too!

I was thinking about the passport thread - That might be a useful contribution to the Wiki too.

I know a bit about getting a letter from your doctor if you've had an issue in the past... and need one for your medical. Also info about getting your medical documents... my experiences with removals (although there are many others who have actually got their things moved who might have better experience).

Hmm What else do we have. How to deal with stress? How important communication is and how your relationship goes around with immigration? I don't mean how it goes up and down, more about how the relationship and the bond you share with your partner/fiance/significant other/husband/wife and so on is affected by the process and how important communication is?

I think I'll miss a lot of BBC shows. Not everything... but the news and other things like that.

I had something in my head but its gone.

Damn.

Oh. What about DVD's and things like that? The watching of, the sending of and so on.

These are all great ideas - if you want to put some bits and pieces together, I'm happy to paste it in. If you want to put it in there yourself, simply create a log in for the wiki, and click on the red link (a link that's red means that it's pointing to a page that doesn't exist yet) and that automatically opens the edit page.

I'll think I'll try and put together something about the US medical system. At the moment I just about have no use of my right arm, been that way since last November, so I have quite a cynical view of the for profit treatment here. I find it very hard to relate to dealing with doctors and other medical professionals here as to the UK. Also I think something is needed which emphasizes the need for medical insurance and why just a small thing, which is how mine started out, can end up costing $000s even with insurance. If you think it is a good idea I'll start putting something together.

Please excuse my contributions taking time because of my shoulder/neck/spine/nerve whatever the current specialist thinks it is this week problem I have to type and use my mouse left handed, which is quite slow.

I've added this to the list, I'd love to hear how you do it!

For everyone:

How to make a new page.

Say you want to make a new page called: UK - How to watch UK TV and Sports. You go to the UK FAQ page, and click edit on the Living in the US section, and create a link to a page that doesn't exist yet. You do this by typing double square brackets around the title of the wiki page. So in this case I would type: [[uK - How to watch UK TV and Sports]]. Then save the changes.

When the page is saved, you'll see your new link is red. This means there is currently no page with that title. Click on your new link, and it will open the edit page. Type what ever you like, and save the changes.

You now have a new wiki page, that is already linked to, from the main UK FAQ page.

Cool! Do you have any other tips and tricks? I haven't had much luck with IP blocking in the past, but it's worth a try!

If you do have any more info about seeing sports/TV from the UK, would you write it up in a form that I could C&P to the wiki? Thanks!

Kyle wanted me to add that after a while if traffic gets too high on that IP address the company cuts off connections to it

so you need to get a new IP address in the UK. He said to just "leave us a message" if it's turned off and he'll get you a new IP address to input.

Edited to add again..lol.. But i'll see if Kyle can write up something for the wiki on this subject. :) He loves his bbc iplayer so it is a must-have for him.
