Hi All,

So, I have moved recently and am not in any temporary/pending status (already have my 10 year green card and don't need to naturalize for a while). We live in a temporary location while we buy a house, so we have all our mail going to a PO Box as there is no mail box at the house we are currently renting.

Two questions:

1) Would it be wise to fill out the change of address online form as well as the AR-11 form even though I don't have any pending applications with USCIS? I think I might, just because.

2) I'm filling out the AR-11 paper form to mail in and it asks me for my present address... Should I put my physical street address, then my PO Box address and then the town, and Zip code where my PO Box address is? I want all mail going to the PO Box as our rented house has no mail box at it (as I said above). Will they even accept a change of address with just a PO Box and no physical address?

You'd think they would have had the physical address and then another line option for mailing address changes too - but of course they don't!!

Thanks in advance!

You can do both online and paper. SHould receive a confirmation letter from them.

Physical address on file followed by the PO Box info. When you send in for N400 you can put the PO Box for all the mail to be sent to as c/o (I printed my explanation on why I want them to mail everything to my work address and attached it to N400 - so far no issues receiving mail).

Hi Together2love,

Likewise, I was "in between cases" when I moved in 2009 too...I had received my 10yrs green card (in June), then had a baby (in July), then moved (in August), and filed for Citizenship (in September)...(yeah, it was crazy..lol..)....

But in the midst of all that while unpacking and recovering, I somehow managed to do the following (as also mentioned on my detailed VJ timeline):

Chapter 6: "Moved":

2009-08-07: Sent the paper AR-11 (Alien's Change of Address Card/Form for Ant) (note: form sent to Kentucky, didn't send it online due to the double addresses)

and I-865 (Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address for D, my husband) (note: form sent to Vermont)

2009-08-17: Received NOA/reciept for D's I-865 form, but no NOA/reciept for Ant's AR-11 form. (note: receipts aren't given for the AR-11)

Total USCIS AR-11 and I-865 Costs: Free (plus mailing costs of $11 via USPS w/delivery confirmation)

(You can download both forms from the www.uscis.gov website. The AR-11 form you can file online or send by mail. The I-865 form your sponsor has to be sent by mail)

So yes, you (within 10 days) and your sponsor (within 30 days) have to inform the USCIS about the move too, regardless, as by law, as a permanent residents and their sponsors have to do such, or face conseqences. As well, I also enclosed a copy of the AR-11 forms and I-865 reciept for my US Citizenship application, just in case they missed it when I sent it to them before..

As for differences in physical and mailing address....Just make a note of such on the forms that they are different, and you should have no problems there.....(the same thing happened to me too, as I have a different physical address and mailing address....)

For the address dilemma...(which is what I did here...)

Use the PO BOX ADDRESS as your MAILING ADDRESS (used to get mail...all letters from the USCIS will be sent here)

Use your STREET ADDRESS as your PHYSICAL ADDRESS (used to determine where your 'local USCIS office' is...)

There will be lines on the forms about this...so fill and make notes about it out accordingly....

Lol..Here is what the immigration officer told me in-person when I went for my N-400 interview, when I had to clarify this issue:

Mailing Address....Where you get your mail...

Physical Address....Where you sleep.....

If I were you, this is what I would put:

MAILING ADDRESS (where you get the mail): PO Box #, Street Address (where the PO Box and/or Post Office is), City, State, Zip

PHYSICAL ADDRESS: Street Address (where you live), City, State, Zip

The bottom line: Mailing address..Where you get the mail.....Physical address..Where you live.....

If there is no line on the forms (such as on the AR-11 form) to state such, write both in separately..

Write small...Write both addresses..Make an extra notation.....

Remember, you are dealing with the unrealiable USCIS here (which is different from the Post Office)...

Make things as easy as possible for them, so the mail doesn't get lost and they know where you live for local offices identification purposes...

Hope this helps too. Good luck on your journey.

Ant

I was researching this issue and glad I found these posts. I just want to be clear on this; when the sponsor (petitioner) and alien (beneficiary) move/change address, are both forms required to be submitted ie sponsor change of address and alien change of address (AR)? Both are sent to the respective filing headquarters etc...

Correct?

Thanks
