Here’s Madam Speaker at an event in San Francisco speaking about the new health care “reform” bill:

”It’s like the back of the refrigerator. You see all these wires and the rest,” said Pelosi. “All you need to know is, you open the door. The light goes on.”

Uh-huh. I’m sure it will be that simple. Let’s try that again:

“It’s like the electric chair. You see all these wires and the rest,” said Pelosi. “All you need to know is, you flip the switch. The economy’s dead.”

Or as an Instapundit reader suggests, “Pelosi’s quote instantly reminded me of the (in)famous fridge incident concerning Rep. Wiliam Jefferson (D).” Presumably, all you need to know is that you open the door and there’s a lot of Democratic campaign cash from Big Pharma.

She would never be elected in redneck Texas. Then again, she doesn't represent a district in redneck Texas. Her constituents have every much right to elect her and send her to Washington as, say, Michele Bachmann's constituents have to elect her.

Much as you find Pelosi offensive to your sensibilities, you can rest assured that a great many Americans find Bachmann every bit as offensive to theirs. Our great system of government allows these two representatives to serve in the same Congress and champion the views of their respective constituents. Ain't America just a swell country?

BTW -- did anyone catch Barney Frank on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this evening?

His recounting of how he didn't (and couldn't) come out of the closet during the 1950s (he only did in 1989) was enthralling.
