I know isn't a concrete reply to you but i always thought about it regarding myself (i will be moving from Spain to Ohio). In the rules for international driver license it's said that can be used 6 months (touristic purposes) so i guess (and i can be wrong) that we can use it temporary till we have the EAD that will allow us to go and get the in state one (i guess that not being considered yet resident in that period of time should be like that for good and bad). Anyway isn't a concrete answer just a personal opinion based in what the international license is for.

Regarding if is easier get the driver license...yes and no is easier for you because driving skills but isn't easier in the exams you have to take etc.

Hopefully we can find out a concrete answer for this.

Take good care! :)

Seven, thanks for the reply.

does anyone know if i am able to obtain my south carolina drivers license after i receive my social security number? or do i need to wait for something else?

the reason i am asking... if i am able to obtain my sc license after a month or so, there is really no benefit for getting an international drivers permit here.

thanks!

your "international driver's license" or international driving permit is worthless.

Although all US States handles this in their very own way, what you want, and need, in order to drive before you get your US license is your national PI driver license. International driving licenses of all forms and shapes are easily obtainable via the Internet, which is why they are usually not accepted.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

They are not really worthless...they are what they are - a translation of a foreign license into multiple languages so that law enforcement can read them.

thanks for every ones help with this matter.

he was able to find out that with a phil license + idp i will be able to drive there for 1 year - also with a phil license and idp i can apply for a sc license... but without the phil license + idp i can only apply for a permit, and have to have that for 180 days before applying for a full license. so it definitely seems to be worth it, at least in sc.

That's great. My husband drove on his international license in New York State. Also for insurance purposes you won't be considered a "New Driver" and save money there.
