CR1 Applicant: Role of the VFS

Ok so I am applying for the CR1 visa in the New Delhi embassy - I still might be a few months away before I have to take the next step, but I want to ask ...

What is the role of the VFS office in the case of a CR1 visa? Technically speaking the VFS is supposed to collect all documents from the applicant, including Affidavit of Support and the Packet IV details for the applicant (DS230, PCCs, passport photos, etc).

But all of that document collection is for the K3 visa - in the CR1 case all these documents are sent to and collected by the NVC.

In the case of CR1, after the case is closed at the NVC and the application is forwarded to India - what type of interaction does the applicant have with the VFS office? Does the applicant still need to go to the VFS office and if so what does the applicant need to do there?

I would think so since you have to pay the courier fees to vFS. They will put a barcode on the back of your passport. They are the ones that would send the passport back to you guys.

In our case we did not have all the documents ready to submit to VFS so we just paid the courier fees and took all the documents in person to the embassy.

9/1/2009: Applied for I-130

9/14/2009: NOA1 for I-130

9/21/2009: NOA1 for I-129F (CSC)

9/25/2009: NOA1 received for I-129F (receipt of mail)

01/08/2010 : Thank you very much Jesus..... NOA 2 129F

01/08/2010 : NOA 2 I-130

01/15/2010 : Embassy gets the approval notice (Awesome..Love K3...so glad we have done K3)

01/20/2010: Embassy schedules interview for K3

02/19/2010: K3 interview over and approved.

[Thank You very much Jesus and our heavenly father.]

Dude - thought you were part of the other discussion with Dave and Kinnari.

For CR1 vfs does not have much of a role, you can submit whatever extra documents you want to vfs and pay your courier fees.

If you don’t want to give docs to vfs and just pay the courier fee then you can do that too and take all the documents with you in person on day of interview.

I had dropped all my documents with vfs in advance so I don’t have to carry them on day of interview including my medical report they would not take the x-ray which I took in person.

Not sure of Delhi but in Mumbai they have nice waiting area, which I like so I paid to use that waiting area and where you can wait until consulate is ready to do interview.

If you opt out of service, then you have to wait in line outside the consulate in heat and rain.
