special accommodations

Hi all,

I'm considering applying for US citizenship soon, but have a few questions.

On the form there is a special section in "part 3. Information about you", subsection I. - for "special accommodations" which in my understanding primarily relates to ppl with disabilities (e.g. deaf, blind). Reading the instructions it seems to have a broader scope.

Here is my issue: I'm 5 months preggo and would like them to move the fingerprinting/interview/oath to the field office OUTSIDE of my state (but only 20 minutes away from my house) instead of the one in my state which will have me drive 4 hours one way...

Has anyone ever tried to ask for similar considerations or used this field for anything other than the obvious (disabilities)?

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks. :star:

Not sure if this helps you but I just did my biometrics at an office that was closer to me (they scheduled me for a local office in my state that was over an hour away instead of the closer office which is 20 minutes from me and where I took my ROC biometrics - Chicago area). Went there as a military family member and had no issues.

ASC Managers/supervisors seem to be accommodating - I was there on Friday around 3 pm - only one in the office.

I suggest you go to the closer ASC location and ask for early biometrics - most likely they'll let you take them then and there.

Don't know about interview, you may want to call the misinformation line for that one.

Hi,

From what I know, is they schedule you to the nearest ASC for fingerprinting, but the interview/oath happen at certain locations only. I've heard from other members that they used to drive to a different state for biometrics since that service center is closer than the one in state.

For instance, I need to drive to Birmingham AL (1.25 hrs away) to get my bios taken, but I have to go to Atlanta GA to do my interview/oath... (3.5 hours away)

hope this provides you some insight.

By the way, you can wait until you deliver to file for naturalization... it is not a MUST to apply when the 3 years are completed - but I am sure you want to and not have to.

This way, you can provide the birth cert as evidence....

I was thinking about waiting, but my situation is complicated as I had to apply for a special document from my birth country which enables me to obtain dual citizenship. This document is only valid for 2 years (starting March 2010) within which I have to apply and obtain the US citizenship, otherwise I can start over. I also thought it might be easier for me to do the studying for test and appointments now, then with a baby in tow.
