Congratulations. My wife scolded me for "wasting money" on flying her over Business Class--a surprise I sprang on her at the last minute, thinking she'd be thrilled. She arrived in a bad mood.

Strangely, it was more expensive for coach considering all the penalty and change fees they sprung on me so I took the deal. Sorry to hear of your spoiled surprise, I would have loved it and have only had the "honor" to fly business only once, and it's awesome, night and day difference for the better.

Hi

Congrats, bacause of the way you handled the situation ( sorry for the delay ). Finally you'll be togetter to start a new life.

Thanks, I did what I had to do, applying for a transit visa would have added a couple of weeks and more legwork considering passport size photos, additional fees etc. Hopefully it will have been the right decision.

This may not matter now, but if you used a travel agent they should have told you that you need a transit visa. I would talk to them and try and get them to take the responsibility for whole or part of any extra cost you incurred.

I booked on Expedia.com and they simply put the blame on the traveler, saying it's your responsibility to check on visas. I even spoke with a supervisor, she was not helpful at all. The Airline also was of no help, saying, it's not our responsibility to check on visa's. Classic case of pointing the finger at each other, so much so that the code share flight with American and Ethihad Airways both said the same thing, it's not our flight, we are only helping the other airline out.

Congratulations. My wife scolded me for "wasting money" on flying her over Business Class--a surprise I sprang on her at the last minute, thinking she'd be thrilled. She arrived in a bad mood.

Lorenzoid - your wife totally rocks! That's hilarious!

Kab - you did the right thing. I can't imagine being in the frame of mind to start messing with transit visa applications either. Best avoided for an easier life. At the end of this visa nightmare thing, the only attitude to take is - it's ONLY money!

The other positive is, she will be first off the plane and therefore first in line at POE, so you'll have less of a wait for her at the airport. You are now in touching distance. So exciting.

Not so fast..... though, the flight is arriving in New York's JFK right at peak rush hour..... isn't that awful? But I'm so happy she'll have a much more comfortable 21 hours in the air.

Congrats! So glad everything is working out, even though it's more expensive than you expected. Still, it's great that you'll be together in only a few days, and best wishes for a wonderful rest of your lives together!

And best wishes from me too! There are a lot of bumps in the road. Some bigger than others, just don't lose your cool. Most of them will smooth out without a lot of problems.

Ok, so here's an update, I paid the additional fare of nearly $900, flying her nearly direct and avoiding France, to the USA. The good news, she'll be flying business class all the way here, if nothing else, it'll be nice for the inconvenience. I just talked with her, for the most part, she's doing ok.

 Let us know when she has arrived here safe and sound! Best wishes! (F)

Here's the latest, she's onboard, they let her board the flight this time, toward her brief stop in the Emirates before the long haul to JFK. I could tell from her voice that she's loving the Business Class, I couldn't even detect her sadness for leaving her sisters and family behind to start a new life thousands of miles away. And I just remembered, I'm going to fight the airline for all the inconvenience they put her through. Seems the airline verbally agreed that a transit visa was not required for flying through Paris. Secondly, I'm going to get my credit card involved, they are quite good at resolving disputes such as this in the card member's favor.
