Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday the solution to the Middle East crisis was to destroy Israel, Iranian state media reported.

In a speech during an emergency meeting of Muslim leaders in Malaysia, Ahmadinejad also called for an immediate cease-fire to end the fighting between Israel and the Iranian-back group Hezbollah. "Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime, at this stage an immediate cease-fire must be implemented," Ahmadinejad said, according to state-run television in a report posted on its Web site.

It always is.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

This war must stop, or it will radicalize the Muslim world, even those of us who are moderate today," said Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who leads the world's most populous Muslim country.

"From there, it will be just one step away to that ultimate nightmare: a clash of civilizations," he added.

Iran backs Hizballah. Indonesia does not. Who do you think Israel is going to take more seriously?

Can you explain your point? Sorry, I didn't get it.

Do you think that Iran feels the war will not radicalize the Muslim world? Isn't that the goal?

Israel is fighting Hizballah. Hizballah is a proxy for Iran.

Iran says the eventual goal is the elimination of Israel. If Israel takes Iran seriously, it can never stop fighting until Hizballah (Iran's proxy in the region) is destroyed or rendered impotent.

Indonesia says if Israel keeps fighting, the rest of the Muslim world will radicalize and we'll have a clash of civilizations. If Israel takes this advice seriously, it will stop fighting.

Both outcomes are at odds with each other. One guy says something that means you must keep fighting, the other says something that means you must stop.

Who do you listen to? Iran. Because Iran backs Hizballah, not Indonesia.

Do you think that Iran feels the war will not radicalize the Muslim world? Isn't that the goal?

The goal is no Israel. It really is that simple. Knowing this, how can Israel be expected to stop fighting while the enemy force is still out there?

Well, then Israel is surely a goner. I believe what Yudhoyono said is accurate, therefore if Israel continues, it will face the entire Muslim world. If they stop, Hezbollah will destroy them.

I agree that Hezbollah and Iran's goal is no Israel, but I do not think that is the entire Muslim world's take.

Better to defeat the enemy at hand, than to stop fighting in fear of a potential enemy that has not yet formed.

I think the problem is that Hezbollah's goals are not what the Muslim world thinks Hezbollah's goal are.

For many muslims I know, the issue is not annihilating Israel, but rather obtaining the disputed land. I believe that they truly feel that if Israel were to "give back" the disputed territores, the crisis would be over.

If Israel continues fighting, this potential enemy that you mentioned WILL form, it's only a matter of time. The Muslim world will support Hezbollah as they think that Hezbollah's goal is to free Palestine. And the conflict will certainly escalate into this "clash of civilizations". If Israel stops fighting, as we established, they will be destroyed by Hezbollah. Neither of these seem to be attractive options.

Which is why I think that negotiations are the way to go here. If fighting stops AND Israel offers something attractive to Palestine, Hezbollah will be forced to show the rest of the Muslim world what its true goal is, and they will lose it's support.

Factoring in Iran though is where it gets really complicated. There really is no good solution. But I don't see any hope for Israel's future unless they fork over the disputed territories.

The President of Iran publicly states at a meeting of Muslim leaders that his eventual goal is the elimination of Israel. That Hizballah is a proxy for Iran is not exactly a secret. How is it exactly that the Muslim world manages to be oblivious to this? I don't buy it and I don't think Israel buys it either. The only logical explanation for any support from the rest of the Muslim world for Hizballah is that they also support the elimination of Israel.

You can not support Hizballah and then say you don't support the elimination of Israel.

Whether it's been through media propoganda, or whatever, I do believe that many of your "average" Muslims really think that Hezbollah is fighting for Palestine. I know it may sound absurd to you, but think of your "average" American and his superficial level of knowledge regarding most political issues. I actually think it's quite possible for people to think that Hezbollah and Iran's goals are not identical, even though Hezbollah is funded by Iran.
