Hello everyone. I just sent out the I-130 and I'm waiting approval. My husband is from Ecuador but has residency in Spain. We would like to know what is the quickest way for him to come here. Is it worth the time/money getting a CR-1 visa or does it take just as long as the green card? Basically, what is the quickest way? I would really appreciate the help!

Wait for the I-130 to be approved. In the meantime, read up on the NVC stage and get prepared so you can zoom through it when your time comes.

Hi Marlena,

You are confusing the green card/CR1 visa. The I-130 is the petition to apply for a visa. The CR1 application is an application for the actual visa - if approved - it will result in the CR1 applicant getting a 2 year conditional greencard.

You need to read the guides, just click on the Guides link at the top of this page.

Good luck!

Marlena,

Read the CR-1 guide here on VJ. You need to follow those steps. The I-130 is one form included as part of filing CR-1 for your foreign spouse. There is a list of forms and evidence that you will need to provide in the guide and what steps to follow.

You say you filed an I-130 but don't provide any additional information so its not clear if you provided enough info.

If you and your spouse were married and both residing in the US its a different process.

What have you actually done so far. I suggest you read up on the guides so you have a solid understanding of the process.

Best Wishes!

Thanks guys for the advice. Sorry for being so vague.

I recently got married in February. I am a US citizen and my husband is from Ecuador but has temporary residence in Spain. He currently is Ecuador and I am back in the States. I sent out the I-130 about a week ago. This whole process is a little confusing and I just wanted to get a feel for how long everything takes.

I read that the actual green card can take anywhere from 6 to 12 months. I just wanted to know if there is a quicker way for him to come while we await the conditional permanent residence. For example, by visa or whatever? Is it possible for him to come within 2 or 3 months on a visa?

I just want to know the quickest way for him to get here and start our lives together.

Thank you!

The path you are on will get him a CR-1 Visa which is a single entry Visa. Upon using it to enter the US he will become a Conditional LPR.

As he is in the process of trying to immigrate his ability to enter the US on the Visa Waiver Program or using a Visitor's Visa is iffy.

6 to 12 months is a decent wait but not the end of the world...
