Original marriage certificate?

Hello,

My mother lost her marriage certificate and has asked to have another one issued. Given that she is now divorced, she was told that they cannot give her the original certificate as that would be illegal (they want to make sure she does not try to commit fraud using it). In this case, will they accept a marriage certificate that has "void" on it? Please advise. Thank you.

Who is requesting she submit a marriage certificate?

Maybe what she really needs is a certified copy of her divorce decree.

Are we to assume you're talking about your mother - who is the intending immigrant? Or an US citizen? The country in question can be helpful as well.

Thanks for replying. I should have been more specific. Her case is at the NVC now and I am still trying to collect all the necessary documents before they request them. My mother is the intending immigrant. I am confused as to whether she will need to submit her marriage certificate along with her divorce certificate.
