Hi!

I'm a med student from a european country and I want to take the usmle exam to become a doctor in usa.

The first 2 exams I can take them in Europe and for one of them I have to come to usa.

But I have a problem: my sister has been in us for almost 4 years, 8 months of which as an illegal alien. She recently got married to an american citizen.

Will this affect my chances to obtain a visa? Even if I'm going there to pass an exam and bring them proof that I have taken the first 2 of them and that my plans have nothing to do with my sister?

I'm scared that I'll study in vain for the first 2 and I won't get a visa because of my sister.

Pls, if you know similar cases or if you can give me any advice, I'll really appreciate it.

Thank you!

Did she enter with inspection? (like on a visitors visa)

Or is she EWI? (entered without inspection)

If she was inspected and given an I-94, then she can simply AOS with her USC husband.

If she is EWI - then she will not be able to AOS - in either case, she needs to consult with a lawyer.

With that said - your sister's plight should not affect your visa attempt - since you are coming here for your own visa/purposes.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

She went to USA with a work and travel program. I don't know any other details..

Thanks

Then, barring any other adverse conditions, she should be able to AOS since she is now married to an USC. (she entered with inspection).

Your sister is as much an illegal alien as she is from outer space. She's the immediate relative relative of a US citizen, and applying for adjustment of status to immigrant.

Does that have any influence or reflection on you? Absolutely not.

Will you be able to continue studying medicine in the US? Sure, if you can ace the MCAT . . .

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
