I never bothered with all the weighing malarky. It's fairly easy to see if your baby is thriving, assuming that they have no other medical complications.

However, I am glad your baby is doing so well :)

Thank you very much!

The doctors were trying to tell us that we needed to set an alarm clock for every 2 hours so wake up the baby so she could eat...

My mother said that was the biggest pile of... well you get the idea.

Our little bundle was sleeping 5 and 6 hours a night right off the bat. The nurses had a fit, Claiming: She will never regain her weight that way... then they weighed her...

In the Third World country where I come from, our elders advise and encourage us to practice breastfeeding. When I was younger, I saw the days when my mother, aunts, and neighbors had just given birth. I don't know if the present generation still does this but somebody would have to cook tinolang manok (our version of chicken soup but a mile different from the American chicken soup) with green papaya and chili leaves. They'd use our native chicken. It's very small but very delicious. Our old folks said that a woman with a newborn baby must have tinola because it aids in the production of breast milk.

According to my co-teachers before, they would breastfeed their babies when they were at home and ask the babysitters to use infant formula during school days. It's mixed feeding.

My wife is breast feeding our little daughter and is not having any problems at all.

Case in point, the hospital says that a new born will lose some weight the first days after birth and it was expected that this would be recovered in 2 weeks.

Well, at the 2 week mark, our dear little angel had gained 14oz OVER her birth weight!!

Not only did she regain her loss at birth but proceeded to put on almost a pound!!

The doctors were very impressed!

Breast feeding is indeed, the best way.

 She's beautiful, btw. (F)

Longer maternity leaves and more support for nursing/pumping mothers in the workplace would go a long way towards bringing the 6 month rate up.

As a society we have to figure out what is most important to us.

Or maybe parents should figure out what is important to them and not expect society to pander to each and every whim.

Then the status quo it shall be.

And I thought you loved breastfeeding. Now it's a "whim". I guess you don't love it enough to encourage parents to make it more important.

As it should be. To be parents mean having to make hard decisions. It would be nice to not have to make hard decisions and let the rest of us (society) take care of or lessen your burden for YOUR choice to have a kid in the first place. It is nice to think that mandating employers to give 6 months so the new mommie can take care of what she alone decided to do. The employer will have to be sure she has that job when SHE decides it is convenient to work again. Training a new person for short time or having the ones already there to take on extra work for no more pay. But hey Obama the Socialist is here now to fix it all so let him know.

I use chayote instead of green papaya whenever I cook tinolang manok for my husband. When WF runs out of chayote, zucchini becomes the next substitute.;)

Keep yourself and your baby healthy all the time. :luv:

That's already been the law under the Family Leave Act during the Clinton years. There's not a lot of controversy on it as it is unpaid leave.
