Can someone please help me. I am trying to go visit my husband who is in Nigeria. I currently live in the US. I applied for the Nigerian visa, paid the fee which was $112.00. I am getting all documents ready to send to the Nigerian embassy in Washington DC. I noticed when I printed my receipt it has an interview date on it. My question is: Do I actually have to go on a interview? has this happen to anyone?. I already took so much time off from work for the trip to Nigeria, going to Washington would not be possible for me. Also I cant afford a trip to washington so soon. The interview date is April 13th. My trip to Nigeria is early june. I have been to Nigeria before in 2009, I did not get anything about an interview. Also I would like to know if i send the package of for the visa, is it possible to get it expedited? How do I go about doing that?.

I don't know why you received an interview date. Just look online for your local office for the Nigerian Embassy and take your application in with a money order for $20.00 which is a processing fee. What city and state are you in?

There are no consulates on the west coast. The choices are NY, Washington and Atlanta. I don't remember if the form I had had a date in it and I am not near my copies at this time. But I didn't need an interview not sure why they would want one from you. I will check my papers when I get home

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Mine had a date but I guess I didn't pay much attention. I got mine with no problem.

I was scared too when I saw an interview date on my proof of payment. There is no interview required and they process visas very quickly. Just be sure to include the $20 money order for the embassy's processing fee. I forgot to include mine but the gentleman that called me was very nice and allowed me to send it to him so he could complete the processing. Including that snag, the process took less than two weeks and I had my visa in hand.

I used this address:

Embassy of the Federal

Washington, DC 20008

Tel: (202) 986-8400

I included the following in a folder with a checklist:

1. Valid Passport (at least 6 months to expiration)

2. Completed Application form & proof of payment

3. Two recent passport photograph

4. A photo copy of roundtrip tickets and/or flight itinerary

5. Letter of invitation, accepting immigration responsibility for me

6. A copy of his bank statements (3 months)

7. A copy of my bank statements (3 months)- use your checking & savings account to show you can support yourself if needed

8. Copies of the data pages from host passport (1st 5 pages)

9. PROCESSING FEE OF $20.00, in a money order addressed to the Embassy of Nigeria

10. Self addressed stamped envelope (I used USPS priority mail)

I hope this helps. Good luck!
