Check the airline's website you're flying with.

They usually have guidelines somewhere on there.

My husband just flew internationally and his bag limit was 50 pounds (it was the same for Delta and Air France). Oh, and he was only able to bring one bag for free--the second one cost $55!!

most are 50 pounds... and many will allow 2 bags on international flights... so you need to check with the airline and hopefully just check 2 bags or shift something to your carryon

I just flew Delta last month and it was 2 bags

Dont get me started on weights. I was initally charged $750 for baggage. If you are flying international you can have 2 bags that are checked for free and 2 carry on bags as well for free. The weights are usually 50 pounds, and from 50 to 70 pounds it is $50 for overweight, $150 for every bag over 2 that you check, and $450 for any bag weighing over 70 pounds this was just done this month on delta. If you are at 50 pounds and it is only 1 bag, I would say to put some in a carry on and make your bags closer to the 45 or even 40 pound range just to be safe if that is possible. I got nailed on one bag that was 82 pounds they said when it was actually 68, someone had a foot or another bag on the scale, because Korean air will not accept ANY bag over 70 pounds, and if it was checked before with a conecting service they will pull it off of their plane if it was more than 70 pounds, so be very careful if you get heavy and fly with Korean. I LOVE flying KOREAN and/or SINGAPORE AIR!! Their service is great!

Check the website for details for the flight you're on...alot of them are different so if you take the info from members on here, it might be inaccurate.

I like EVA. They have reasonable prices, decent food, individual entertainment centers at each seat (even in economy class), and I like the international terminal at Taipei airport. It's never very crowded, even at peak hours, and it's always easy to find a seat in any of the restaurants.

China Airlines also goes through Taipei, but I hate that airline. They haven't upgraded their 747's since the 1980's. The seat cushions are worn, so the seats are hard. They still show one movie on a single screen in the front of the cabin from a VHS tape, and it's always overdubbed and subtitled in Chinese.

The last time I flew (in December) was on EVA. Two bags at 50lbs max each. There were four of us, so we had a LOT of luggage, including several "va li Viet Nam" (cardboard boxes completely laminated with packing tape).

I guess the literal answer to the question is as heavy as you are willing to pay for.... the above posts all have a common thread.. it boils down to the specific airline as Linda is trying to determine...

I did some looking on the web, 98% say the maximum without ANY overweight fee is 50 pounds, anything over 70 on any international flight will cost you big bucks, there are 2 checked bags free, and 2 carryon bags that are free as well, no weight limit for say on the carry on bags just as long as it is the approperiate size. This information was gathered from Delta, Jal, Korean air,China, and American, hope it helps. Jerome

When I fly Korean Air, I check in two 50 lbs bags (Mostly filled with gifts for my fiancee's relatives... Hmm, I suppose it's partly why I didn't have much variety of clothing in our evidence photos).

As for the 2 allowed carry-on items, I was under the impression that one of them had to be a small personal item (purse, laptop, book bag, etc.) which I assume is small enough to fit under the airplane seat. The other, larger carry-on is stowed up in the bins above the passengers. I read somewhere that stewards are pushing for tougher restrictions for carry-on items but I don't know if any rules have changed since my last trip in Dec.09.
