Confusion about Police Certificate

Dear All

I am looking for some guidance as the more I searched the more 'confused' I became. My husband filed our I-130 in February 2010, and have received our initial NOA.

The confusion is that do I need a police certificate from UK if I spent 9 months over there, I went to work as a foreign language assistant almost 2 years ago. Now I am back in Pakistan, and am wondering how to obtain a police certificate from here, but before that...do I really need one?

Form OF-169 mentions that it is required if one has lived abroad for over 6 months, on the contrary the official website says that it is required only if an applicant has lived abroad for over a year. It's these contradictory statements which are really confusing...I request help from someone who has recently acquired a police certificate from abroad.

Many thanks

Hello-

My wife may need to get one from Hong Kong because she worked over seas for 10 months. BUT Hong Kong won't release one without proof as to why its needed. So we were told to send it what Police certificates she had since age 16. And we were told that NVC may not require one from Hong Kong because it was only 10months and not a year. If NVC requires one they will send us a letter to give to Hong Kong that states the reason why we need one, then its in the mail to us after that.

The requirements vary slightly from consulate to consulate. Maybe better posed in your regional forum? Also, it could depend where you were born and how old you were when you were in the UK.

As an example, the London embassy requires a certificate from any country you have lived in for more than 12 months after the age of 18, unless you spent more than 6 months in your country of birth after the age of 16. In my individual case, I need my French police certificate because I was born there, moved when i was 6 but spent 7 months in Paris aged 19. But again, this could be just the London embassy's requirements.

Timeline Summary:

K-1/K-2 NOA1 - POE: 9 February - 9 July 2010

Married: 17 July 2010

AOS mailed - Interview : 22 November 2010 - 10 March 2011

ROC mailed - approved: 14 February - 18 June 2013

Citizenship mailed - ceremony: 9 February - 7 June 2017

I got this off of their website.. hope it is helpful :)

5. How can I get a "Police clearance certificate" / "Certificate of good conduct" for visa or emigration?

The UK police do not issue "certificates of good conduct" or "police clearance certificates", however in our experience foreign embassies will generally accept a police reply under the subject access provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 as a suitable equivalent.

Individuals requiring Police Certificates for the purposes of applications for emigration, visas or residency in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States of America should download the application form for an ACPO Police Certificate from the ACPO website.

Please note that this Certificate is processed entirely by the ACPO Criminal Records Office (ACRO). All submissions and enquiries relating to this process should be directed to ACRO, who can be contacted through the following routes:

Telephone: 0845 6013999 (during their office opening hours of 8:30 – 16:30, Monday to Friday

E-mail: acro.policecertificates@acro.pnn.police.uk

Address: ACRO, PO Box 481, Fareham, PO14 9FS

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.
