So Mohammed has been here over a year now..all is well he has a good job in the hospital here and we've settled into a good routine...the only not so good thing is how much he misses his family. He talks to them online of course, but the reality of American life, 2 busy teenagers, the 2 of us working opposite shifts just life in general makes his time with them short. We have discussed the possibility of his mom coming to visit..she doesnt work there but she owns their home and there is a new grandbaby there who she watches while his younger brother and wife work. She would need his sister who is 33 and not married to accompany her. Anyone have any luck with this type of thing? It would be an awesome Christmas gift for him this year....

Your mom can apply for B-2 tourist visa and you can send her an invitation letter, affidavit of support, letter from your work, copy of green card, and a copy of your wife's passport to take to the interview. Also if she has a bank account in Morocco she should bring the last three statements and proof that she owns a house there. I sent that to my mom and she got a 10 year visa. If your mom applies for herself only there is a good chance she will get a visa. if she applies with your sister there is a good chance she will be denied. I suggest that your mom applies for her visa first and then wait a month and then have your sister apply. Your sister may be denied but she can try her luck and spend $100tongue.gif .

My husbands sister came for 6 months. She doesn't work, is not married and does not have any children and she didn't have a bank account. We just sent a letter of invitation, affidavit of support, and copies of our bank statements. She was granted a 3 month visa but when she arrived in Atlanta they extended it to 6 months when she went through immigration at the airport. So she stayed the full 6 months and then went home. There was no problem getting the visa it was granted the day of her interview.

I would dare say that this is more of an exception than a rule. Every case I have seen, if they don't have some substantial reason to return, they get denied.

There are several of us here with family members who have gotten visas :)

My MIL got her 10 year visa about 3 years ago - she spent 2 months with us after I had my baby and she is coming again for a few months at the end of the summer. The application process was pretty easy and you've gotten good advice here. good luck!

she came in March 2008. She was given a 3 month visa by the consulate which was extended to 6 months when she arrived.

I've since been told this is common. She was here until September 2008.

Both my MIL and SIL were refused a visa because they didn't take in proof that they had financial ties to Morocco. They did the process again, with proof this time, and have both received visas. Both received a 10 year visa.
