I didnt get a chance to call today but I am sure I would have been told "no date set" :( Guess I wont get a chance to call till Wed. Monday I will be going to my aunts house who lives near toronto because I have my Medical on tues. between 7am and 8am. Yikes that is way too early for me. Hope my medical goes alright. really nervous

Oh....Don't worry it's all gonna go just fine... It's ridiculously easy and if you have general good health, you'll be fine and dandy! I was very nervous about chest x-rays because I've been smoking for 8 years, and everything looked good.

Don't worry everything is gonna go alright! Let us know when you get back!

Second that, the medical it super easy...the waiting around is the most annoying part. Bring a good book or something to do and it passes by quickly:)

Good Morning!

So is there anyone that knows which department (DOS or NVC) could confirm to me that we are allowed to travel to the US while waiting for a K-1 visa? I want to know just in case I get drilled bad and then I can say: 'well a lady at ... told me I could!'

Thanks and have a good weekend everyone!

I think it is up to the discretion of the border guard. I think if you pull the "well the lady told me I could" card, you'll be looking at a return trip. My financee crosses everyweekend or so without incident (though sometimes she gets pulled over, but they've always let her through). She doesn't really even have too much proof of ties to Canada as she just finished school.

Thanks nickbits!

I just don't want the guy to say you're not allowed to travel to the US while waiting for a K-1 visa, because I know it's not true... So I just wanted to know which department could actually confirm that...

But thanks for the reassurance!

You can look here for some answers, the links at the bottom will help.

It really is up to the CBP officer if he allows you to cross in the end or not, if you have valid ties etc.

Unless asked, you dont even need to tell them you have a visa application in process, keep answers short, and honest, never give any more information than they ask for, giving your "lifes story" is one of the triggers to raise suspicion, and can result in you being sent back. Its how I did it while in process, and no problems at all.

My fiance' and I went back and forth to Canada about once a month each. He (the Canadian) was never asked for any "proof" of ties to Canada and he always said the truth i.e. I am going to visit my fiance' for the weekend. It is still up to the border guard though. Don't take more than would be necessary for whatever length of time you plan to go and don't move anything in expectation of getting your visa.

Thanks so much you guys!!!

So I'll just say I'm going to visit my fiancé for 5 weeks and leave it at that. I'll bring my whole filing thingy in case they ask for something, but my gut feeling tells me everything will be ok. I haven't been to the States since November 2009 so...

netguy,

I admire your positivism, but right now, I think there's no telling when the next interviews will be scheduled, and for what month, thanks to Montreal's lack of reliability! But I hope you're right! :star:

I've read a few stories where some people have crossed and were stopped at the border. These same people ended up going to their K1 interview's and having to explain to the CO why they were stopped at the border. Usually the CO will put this sort of thing into consideration and it will likely go into Administrative Processing where the CO investigates the situation to make sure nothing more occured at the border. All in all it causes more grief then its worth sometimes. Just know that if your stopped at the border, you'll end up having to explain it to the CO at the time of interview -which may or may not go into AP. if it goes into AP, your wait time will feel like an eternity. I know it sucks, but that's procedure here.

Mummm, that's weird because I've actually read quite the opposite from some people on here. Being turned around at the border as a 'visitor' supposedly has no outcome on 'immigrant visas'

Thanks for the input anyways

This is correct.

AP in Canada is extremely rare.

Thanks SupportGeek, I thought so, but as always, your reassurance is very welcome! By the way, I was looking at your timeline, did you receive your visa in the mail yet?

When are you POEing?

Yes, it actually took them almost the full 2 weeks after the interview to send it, I dont think May 24 and Memorial day holidays helped that any since the consular folks get both Canadian and US holidays off.

Im planning to POE June 30, my fiancee will be here on the 24th, we are going to finish cleaning and final packing of my place, load my stuff at Upack, dump whatever I cant take due to space requirements then if everything is clean, head out to drive to Santa Maria, CA. Im thinking on making my POE at Sarnia/BlueWater Bridge, no idea if its a good/bad place to POE or not yet though.
