Between NOA2 and Interview - 2010

Love the wiki idea and agree wholeheartedly. Also more than happy to kick-start the effort. I'd looked through the wiki to try and find something along these lines, failed, and ended up seeing the 2009 thread. Since there's 101 pages of it, I realised a heck of a lot of repetition was going on and most aren't diligent enough to trawl through a thread to see if an exact question has already been posed. Hence how I came to the 'updated first post' idea. And never having created/ dabbled in wiki-creation before, seemed the fastest way to an end! lol

Will have a look at the how-to as soon as I've posted this.

I realise this part is going completely off-topic, but I'm curious as to what was wrong about EU citizens moving to Ireland. I've looked at those 2 posts, can't see any further information from you redressing the inaccuracies and further reading tonight herestill leaves me confused as to what was inaccurate? I don't want to be argumentative nor am I trying to disagree with you, and would happily have PMed you instead, but am conscious of the etiquette at VJ of keeping it all in the open.

But back to topic, I wonder if it's not worth asking Captain Ewok, once we've cleaned up/ created the UK wiki pages, to change the pinned topics to just one thread, with links to all the pages and relevant threads. Not everyone finds wikis easy to use, however, so I think there's some merit in keeping the information easily accessible and obvious on the regional board.

If anyone wants to talk me through wiki-mastery, please do PM me or add me to yahoo! All help gratefully received :)

Just wanted to add that I'll carry on editing the first post until the wiki is in a more practical state. I get the impression that it is triggering contributions/ comments that it mightn't otherwise. Also makes pulling the information out and into the wiki a lot easier!

Sorry if I missed it, but another thing that I think might be helpful for "Tips for interview" is to bring a credit/debit card. I've read posts about the courier only accepting cards, no cash at all. I know my fiance usually does not carry cards, only cash.

And, are watches acceptable to wear? I guess they could be considered electronics, but I know he generally wears one, and would probably like to be aware of the time while he's in the embassy.

Thanks!

A lot of people don't even look at the guides or pinned topics. I think the point of the Wiki is a really thorough answer (like you thought of my tax explanation--thanks) can be stored. Then when it comes up again, one can answer and perhaps say "read more detail here in the Wiki." You could have muliple pages so every thing UK doesn't become a long read. We will always have people we have to spoon feed because they aren't going to dig and read for information. The UK Embassy webpage is pretty clear on what a K1 does as far as documents to send, sign, duplicate, or bring to the interview. Yet there's always somebody who asks on the forum and needs an answer because reading for information isn't their style. While I would like to help, I'm not likely to write my best answer more than once.

Never got into understanding the Wiki editing myself is part of the reason I never worked on it. However I finally did slightly update something about getting HPV shot. You have to do a different sign up to register to Wiki edit I think.

And, are watches acceptable to wear? I guess they could be considered electronics, but I know he generally wears one, and would probably like to be aware of the time while he's in the embassy.

Yes, watches are allowed. They ride through the security scanner off the wrist, then you're good to go.

Has anybody noticed the link to the DS-157 from the right column of London's instruction page is a broken link? It linked to a DOS page and that's apparently been moved. There's been a consulate switch to the DS-160 replacing some of the non-immigrant applications, but London does not list the K visa as one to start using the new form. The visas using the DS-160 in London are true non-immigrant.

For new people: K visas are called non-immigrant but follow many of the procedures of an immigrant visa since the intent is to remain in the US. So sometimes you'll find K1 things under non-immigrant and sometimes you have to look at immigrant to find what you want.

Here's a link where you can read about the DS-160 and also find the DS-157 form.

I just had to search on the State Dept website for DS-157.

DS-157

The DS-160 is not for K Visas..

1. Gather Documents for Packet 3

Packet 3 is available to download from the US Embassy London website here.

  • DS230 - part 1 which is pages 1 & 2 - Okay to sign (do not sign part 2)
  • DS156 - Okay to sign
  • DS157 - no signature required
  • DS156K - DO NOT WRITE BELOW THE LINE The consular officer will assist you in answering this part, so don't write/sign below.

So, I have a question....the London Embassy guide on VJ says 'Do not sign', yet on this post is says 'ok to sign'. I went by the Embassy guide, didn't sign it, and sent P3 yesterday.

Please someone tell me this is ok...

Also, I was born in London, in the Borough of Waltham Forest. My Birth Certificate says the following:

Registration district: Waltham Forest

Sub-district: Waltham

Administrative Area: London Borough of Waltham Forest

Date & Place of Birth: (Date) & Whipps Cross Hospital, Leytonstone.

On the I-129-F I simply put London as my place of birth. In completing packet 3, as I then had my BC, I've put LONDON - WALTHAM FOREST on my forms as place of birth. Will this be ok? I don't know how picky they are gonna be.

Thanks all

I honestly don't recall signing my forms BUT they couldn't find any of my packet 3 docs at the embassy on the day of my interview (don't know what happened there). I gave them my own copies which had no signatures. They copied them and told me where to sign.

Re birth cert. I was born in Dulwich and I think I just put London. I can't even remember. Probably not an issue. Don't stress it. They'll tell you if it's a problem. :)
